Déçu en bien
“Disappointed in a good way”. The French speaking part of Switzerland uses this expression to describe something you didn’t expect to deliver the goods and which turns out to be more than satisfactory. Described quite accurately my experience with the G&M app. I’m a Canadian expat of over 25 years in Geneva and I recently acquired the app to be able to talk to my mum in Vancouver about political and social issues back home. It’s turned out to be much more than that. I’m constantly surprised by the Globe’s incisive and wide-ranging coverage of world affairs, the arts, the zeitgeist and its creative way of bringing the issues of contemporary post-gender society to the fore. My memory of the G&M from back when I lived in Canada was of a fusty, Torontonian heavily business-oriented paper with a heavy Anglo-bias against Quebec. Well, it’s still heavily business oriented ;) but reporting on Quebec is a lot more objective, thanks to great writers like Konrad Yakabuski. I was originally loath to shell out for the app. Now I’m hooked. Money well spent indeed.
Globe & Mail
This is a super app; easy to use. As a Canadian living abroad, it keeps me up to date with events in Canada as well as providing a Canadian perspective on international news. I begin each day with this app.
Good app but why are there ads?
I’m a paying subscriber so why are there ads? Lol…
Dark mode
The dark mode setting should match the system setting automatically. Instead you have to manually toggle the dark mode setting on and off within the app.
It only gives you headlines
You can’t read anything! Unless you have subscribed for membership it’s useless
Total Mess
I am a subscriber. I receive various emails and when I click on an article it does not recognize my subscription.
I have logged out and in - no response. Very frustrating.
No title photos or any other photos within the article
Please look at the New York Times app for inspiration and ambition. Your website is so much better than your app.
For a photojournalism article, eg the Yazidis, why aren’t any of the photos visible within the article? Why do I need to go on your website?

Would like to chain together multiple articles and listen in succession.
Would like to be able to search for articles by a specific journalist.
