Tinybeans Private Family Album Reviews
Love / hate relationship!
I love seeing my family in this app. It’s generally easy to use. However…this app is overly permissive with my privacy, fails to offer a way to give app feedback and is relentless with notifications and asks to upgrade to a paid version. Even if I disable notifications the app harasses me to turn them back on. Will likely remove it and go for something like a skylight.
Still buggy since 2023
Latest version as of 7/18/24:
- STILL NOT RECOMMENDING THE APP
- NEW BUG: When doing multiple media upload, you can only caption the first one because the screen goes white when tapping the screen afterwards.
- UNRESOLVED BUG: "complete!" prompt is still showing up in the beginning of upload instead of the end of the upload. This is making it hard to judge when an upload is actually done and it's safe to close the app
- MISSING UPLOADS & CAPTIONS BUG: Managed a streak of successful multiple media uploads for a few days. Then the issue came back.
----------
My tips on the latest version as of 6/11/24: Double check after every upload and change (eg. updating captions, resorting memories) you make because there is a 50/50 chance the app fails to process them. If you don't see the prompt "uploading x moment" after uploading/changes, close and reopen the app. This seems to clear the app cache to properly process the upload/change. It should then give you these prompts: "Complete!" followed by "uploading x moment" (Yeah, the prompt order seems backward). Sometimes it does not give you any prompt and that means the upload/change fail. I loved everything about Tinybeans before the app became buggy back in Sept 2023. Uploading and making changes become a stressful experience because the app will often fail to process them. So many times I need to reload and retype the prompts on multiple photos & videos. I still love the calendar view and tagging capability which I don't see in other similar apps, but would NOT recommend it anymore until this issue is fully fixed. I know the deceloper team has always been responsive to feedbacks, but the issue should have been fully fixed by now.
Falling quality for a great app
Our family has been a long time user of TinyBeans across multiple households to share scenes from every day life with close friends and family. So we’ve been subscribed and paying customers for years. The app used to just always work, until this last year, when buggy uploads, unsaved comments, and crashes became much more common. What’s most frustrating is that support never responds to inquiries, even when there are critical errors that prevent me from using the app at all. I really want to believe they’re using the new subscription fees to expand features and they’re working out kinks in development, as the decrease in quality would have made me cancel for any other service. Holding out in hopes they fix things up soon because it’s a great app otherwise.
frustrated!!
Can only invite family members via email which is very confusing for my old grandparents who don’t understand how to get their email on their phone… Also have no idea how to set up more than one album for them ,when they have two great grandchildren (and one set up for the first baby). How do I add my baby when their account is connected to the other one?? Not very user friendly
Keep Looking, Issues Too Often
I’m so sad because honestly, this should be the best photo sharing app out there but there are just too many problems with it. I swear every 6 months I have a huge issue that I have to email support about. They say we’re working on it which they are and they do eventually fix it, but that’s so frustrating. There shouldn’t be issues uploading, that’s what this whole app is for. I spend a lot of time writing captions and uploading photos and too often it just stops and everything I did for that day is lost. We are tired parents, we don’t need to add difficult things to our lives. Not even to mention the outrageous cost. If I wasn’t already so invested I would run far, far away from this app. I can’t say I will continue to pay the fee, it’s way to expensive and then on top of that to have problems so often is just not worth it. I’m sad to say it, but keep looking. This is not the app you want.

Great when it works
I’ve used this app for 3.5 years, back when it was free. Now it’s like $70/year and I feel stuck because all my memories are here and my family members are here. Ever since they “updated” the app to be paid, it’s been very hit or miss on: 1) whether pictures upload, or 2) if they upload in the correct order. It is SO ANNOYING having to re-upload, re-tag, and re-caption multiple photos. Otherwise I do enjoy it and enjoy sharing my family with those closest to me, but for $70 you’d think they would figure out THE ONE THING it’s supposed to do.
Multiple families
They don’t make it easy to follow two families.
Great app to share pictures and videos with close family/friends
This is a wonderful app to keep track of milestones, share videos and pictures, and to help keep photos organized. From a price perspective, it’s not super expensive for what you get.
A couple of bugs that seem to be exclusive to iOS devices and some flagship Android (Samsung) devices.
- Pictures/the page “jumps” if you try to view a day with lots of pictures/videos (at least 10). This has been raised several months ago, but the issue still seems to be there. On Android tablets, that issue doesn’t seem to occur.
- If you were to go back and add/update captions on a picture/video, they do not always save. This is frustrating when you update/reorg a bunch only to find out the changes never save.
- At times, pictures or videos do not always upload with iOS devices the first time. I would say around 90% of the time things are uploaded the first time.
Given the fact that it’s $80/year, it would be expected that most of these bugs wouldn’t be consistent. Otherwise, it’s a great app to share content when everything works.
Not working for me
Am not computer skilled. Can’t send comments to Paese family. Pls advise how to do that.
