Do not rely on TomTom to provide accurate and up to date speed limits. I provided update re speed limit via MapShare as being incorrect on 22/05/24 for a road targeted by police using handheld radar which TomTom shows as 60mph when I fact speed limit is 50mph (the road also has infrequent speed limit repeater signposts on it). 26/06/24 speed limit still not amended on database, I made second report on 21/06/24 and contacted TomTom via web chat on 24/06/24. In that chat I was told that it takes 4 weeks for database to be updated - this is clearly not the case. Why can’t TomTom have a facility to alert drivers. That the posted limit in the app may well be inaccurate whilst doing whatever verification is required for a permanent amendment? Why would a user wish to post inaccurate information particularly when reporting a lower limit to the one displayed in the app? My advice is to use WASE which is so much more user friendly and accurate and is also FREE to use (& CarPlay compatible). I hope TomTom take seriously the serious flaws in there duty to customers and seek to radically improve the way that updates are both notified and acted upon! I look forward to TomTom’s response (if in fact I should get one at all). The response received does NOT address the points I raised and clearly my interaction via web chat is on TomTom system and is available. However the specific reports I refer to are on A1500 between its junction with A15 and B1398 - I have checked map share this evening 28/06/24 and both of my reports are still marked as pending, even though I was told during web chat that these omissions would be prioritised! Please, please as a developer do customers the courtesy of actually reading reviews and answer the concerns raised and the suggested improvements to your database accuracy. Your response reminds me of the film ‘Groundhog’.
Previous years app was excellent. I’ve been paying yearly subscription for a longtime. Also recommended friends and family too. Was a great tool for me. But just over a year it’s gone all loopy, I have screen shot of lost location while on motorway. I even reset the app many times, no response. Stupid me, I don’t know why I renewed subscription. Gave them chance to fix it but no improvements. Will claim my money back. Why pay for something that’s useless. Not reliable at all. A lot of people mention Waze app same as TomTom but free version. But I’ve been using google maps for the last few months.
Please add 1. Motorcycle as a vehicle option 2. Improve your POI search intelligence. Google Maps does that much better 3. Add ‘What Three Words’ as a search option capability.
Good app on the whole, but now Apple has released the ability to use metadata to inform the HUD or instrument cluster in cars that have them with iOS 17.4, this app really could do with that being integrated, else Apple Maps with downloaded map segments is a better option.
In just a full week this thing was taking me into the wrong direction just to turn back at the next roundabout. So frustrating and time and fuel wasting. Also in just a week 2(two) postcodes could not be found(Google maps finds them easy). Being in a HGV it was avoiding an imaginary restricted piece of road which was in fact A HGV ROUTE, adding a total of 30 miles plus delays to my route. Luckily I knew the area and again I had to use Google maps. All that in JUST A WEEK OF USE. My 5 year old Garmin did better but had other issues. I'm so disappointed.
I have used TomTom since before there was an iPhone (PDA version since c.2002) and while this gets better and better it is let down by a few of significant downgrades: 1. Much less user choices of screen colours from six or seven options for both day and night to…none (no options). I used to be able to match it to my cars night colours but no longer. 2. The AI voice has significant difficulty pronouncing and word with an ‘aar’ sound (i.e. Barnsley is pronounced ‘ Bar-ren-slay’) - very weird the first time you hear it! 3. No viable option to import GPX route’s although this is possible in the TomTom Go device just not in the app version. Overall a good app but seem to be more and more restricted with less user options; hopefully the developers will address at least one of these (I do expect the AI voice to improve anyway).
I gave 4 / 5 stars because of 2 reasons: 1st: I drive a lot every day and it would benefit every user if TomTom would add a button where we could report an incident or a notification to take care (accident, obstacle on road, road closed, change of speed limit, etc.). At the moment we can only report a speed camera. 2nd: London has many private roads who got camera surveillance and only allow permit holders to pass. Other streets of London turn from a normal street for cars into a bicycle road. TomTom is unable to divert around these restrictions which lead to penalty charges. If you are lost as a driver and follow the navigation you will receive a penalty charge of £80 (if paid in first 14 days) for using these types of roads. Unfortunately I had to experience that. If TomTom could consider some changes it could turn into the best navigation app. Waze for example is good but keeps tracking your phone even if you turn the app and location services off (written in their policies).
I’ve tried the 7 day trial with this app. I’m quite disappointed. Several faults. The pronunciation of roads / areas is awful. Wrong information on motorway signs, which is not helpful when driving a truck. I’ll not continue with this app. I’m going end my 7 day trial.
I’ve been using this app for some months now and finding it really useful. The maps are clear and the routes are easy to follow. There is one bugbear however. The English speaking voice “Serena” has a fault in pronunciation- frequently adding on another syllable which can cause difficulty in understanding reference to unfamiliar places. This has been the case since I got the app. Any sign of it being rectified?
