Blatant lying. This app is not free
Don’t waste your time this app isn’t free. They make you go through the process of making you set up an account and the selection options about yourself. After I uploaded my book I wanted to listen to it tells me I need to pay for a subscription. They themselves say their own app won’t function without a subscription. That means theirs not even a free version where you can use voices that sound worse or something. You have to pay for the app entirely to use it.
Question?
After the free trial will I be charge $79.99 annual or $6.66 monthly? It seems like it’s the full yearly rate. I want to pay month by month.
App was sold to incompetent devs
Do not buy!!!
The developers have been releasing updates which break core functionality. I thought to give them time when a few releases ago the app started crashing in the background. Today with the 5.0 release, it will not even load books, showing a blank instead.
I’ve reported it to Apple for quality issues. The level of backsliding with the new owners is amazing, starting with the attempt to force users who had paid nearly 25 dollars to sign up for an expensive subscription, and now it seems every update breaks core features.
Monthly
I was just about to subscribe until I noticed that the monthly cost was $6.66 say what you want but I’d never pay that price. Why not make it $6.67 or $6.65 for those of us not into Satan.
Sad decline
It was a reliable workhorse that provided a single large print and text-to-speech interface to all my reading — MP3s, audiobooks, epub, pdf, docx — and the new owners are randomly and rapidly adding features without testing against any of the existing uses.
Great App
Don’t ruin it with a subscription when it started at $15 bucks. Thanks.
New Update Overrides Voice I Have Chosen To Use
Now that ai voices has been introduced. I can no longer keep my chosen voice which is Tyler, a synthetic Australian voice as the default. Every time the app is closed or forced closed, the voice is switched back to the new AI voice Will. I bought this app back when it was a one time price of $15. I don't know if they are trying to make the app worse for people who have bought it ages ago or what. I have to redownload my preferred voice and set it back up every time now.
SCAM: Customer Service is a joke
I have repeatedly requested to have my trial end before being charged and the customer service (via email) ignored all of my requests. I have now been charged and customer service is nowhere to be found. This is a SCAM!
Not “in app purchases”
It is not “in app purchases” if you have to subscribe to use the app. That isa subscription and the app is not free.
Best App Store Purchase ever
I purchased this app several years ago and it's been probably the best investment I've made in the App Store. It got me through grad school! It would take me daaaaaays to read the technical articles, but as soon as I downloaded this app I was able to consume and retain the information from the articles in a matter of minutes. I really appreciate that I can upload any text doc and it will read it to me. I also appreciate the many different options for voices, genders, accents and languages. 5 out of 5 stars, for sure.
