Very poor quality unfortunately. the app is practically never loading. I’ve bought several books in this app, but almost never am able to open them for reading.
The CarPlay experience is horrible for audiobooks. If you primarily use this on your drive to work to listen to audiobooks then pick another app because Google once again lacks focus and can’t support their products. Seriously does anyone at Google not use an iPhone and use audiobooks in a car? Do they not see the issue? This issue is on multiple cars, multiple accounts and multiple phones. So it’s not isolated to just me.
I had got it and as soon as I got it would not work
When I open a book, the page I left in the last time keeps being set to the end of the book. This is very annoying. I am very surprised this app is made by Google.
Well to save money, you can only buy the book on android devices. Smart move, however the app is just glitter and nothing much. I cant use a mouse and keyboard to browse, middle mouse wheel etc are also not detected by the app. And yes i speak of tablets, images just dont look so great, in the hard copy of book, the images are better than the app. Color choices in highlight is limited to just 4, there is no underlining available, basically pdf readers like adobe beat this app in every possible way. Id also like an option to swipe right or down to turn pages. Copy and paste is rubbish, bookmarks dont exist. However, I will applaud allowing people to use black one white instead of white screen which hurts for long use. Read aloud function is pretty much a joke, works good on android phones here i need a gesture, adobe again does it better. There is also no print version, hey i own the copy. Does google want to leave potential earnings away from these as well?
everything was good on the app ‘til you decided to remove the “Delete books” option…I don’t want to “hide the book” in my library, i want the option to remove/delete the book once read…
Very well useful to ones need on the go or mental comfort
Why are you unable to search your books in release order? I like to read series and the Libby app allows you to see the order of the series, but Play Books is quite stupid and doesn’t allow this feature. How about investing a little money into this app?
This is still not fixed as of Jan 17, 2025. It’s causing accessibility issues because the light level keeps getting turned up on its own. It hurts my eyes and makes it hard to switch settings back where I need them. Please fix! Previously: This app functions well for the most part, but the lighting settings and the screen color settings don’t stay where I selected in app. Every time the shift from night to day themes, my Play Books dark, low light settings shifts from what I selected. And there’s no way to make them stay exactly as selected. It also frequently switches back to light theme and a more lighted scale than I can tolerate if I’m using other apps before returning to my book. I expect more than this. It’s 2025. Apps should have such basic settings sorted and should hold their values without user monitoring. I’m on iPhone 15 Pro Max and running iOS 18.2.1
