HSL

The app is glitchy and full of user journey dead ends. The reset password routine disappears on screen while you’re typing your email address. I can’t create a new account because it thinks I have an old one (I lived in Helsinki for a while 2 years ago and it won’t let me reset my password. This means HSL have been holding my dormant records on file for more than 2 years - a clear breach of GDPR. This should be rectified urgently.

As overall this app is easy to use, but there is one stumbling block, if you have an international phone number and won’t want to use additional VPN app, HSL app doesn’t allow you to access anything. Please improve this, as it is really stressful and frustrating. (Tried to buy a ticket on app in August 2024)

I’m a Finnish citizen but I live abroad and have non-Finnish sim. This app used to work perfectly and now it has stopped, I can’t buy tickets which has made moving around way more difficult.

Used to be a great app for locals (I’ve used it for 5 years) and visitors alike but but it seems foreigners are barred from using it via mobile (only WiFi) - yet there are no other options for getting tickets in many places

The app blocks foreign and roaming IP addresses. Given that not all ticket machines accept contactless payments, you have to carry a physical card at all times to travel around.

Does not allow you to buy tickets when roaming from a non Finnish operator. (Bought morning tickets on accommodation WiFi, could not get return tickets despite mobile internet working).

The apps verification system doesn’t work on many foreign phones. It was impossible to buy tickets during my trip to Helsinki

Gives you the option to select UK phone number, but never receive the confirmation sms, effectively rendering the app useless

Tried to create an account but as a visitor from the UK I am stuck in an infinite loop to verify my phone number and thus can’t use the app. Pointless. Would leave 0 if I could.

Ok if you’re connected to WiFi, easy to plan a route and see how much a ticket will cost. However out and about I just kept getting a ‘no connection’ error which frankly makes the app pretty useless. I was unable to plan routes or buy tickets when out and about. I had plenty of data, roaming switched on and data for the app turned on. Maybe it works for locals but not for visitors.
