A fantastic browser that does everything right. Supports Chrome and Firefox extensions? Wow!
Safari is still my primary browser, but my favorite secondary browser has disappeared from the App Store. I have spent weeks trying to find a suitable replacement. Then I came across “Orion.”
Summary: if you are looking for a browser designed for mobile that also has desktop capabilities, this is the browser you want.
- Yes, it is fast. Not only does it feel fast, but it benchmarks fast.
- the interface is very similar to Safari, but it is also less complicated when it comes to settings, a good thing.
- I did not need another desktop browser that happens to offer a mobile browser, I wanted one designed for mobile, especially for iPad. Orion delivers on that. Things like bookmark management can be done on the device and then synced using iCloud. No having to set up a separate desktop account.
- It supports Passkeys, has built-in ad blocking, and other modern iOS browser capabilities.
- What blew me away was the ability to add extensions from the Chrome store or Firefox store. Not all of them will work, but I was amazed how many useful ones did work. I believe it is the ONLY browser on the App Store that has this capability (besides Safari and its native extensions, which are pretty limited)
- One can use Orion as a regular day-to-day browser, without all the overhead baggage of Safari. Adding the desktop extension capability, now you have the best of both worlds.
- It’s open source, free, and I’ve found the support is very responsive.
- You will not regret adding Orion. You may even decide to replace Safari with it.
It has a really interesting story behind it that is covered in the documentation and support. I hope this browser becomes wildly successful.
PERFECT! Just one thing...
This browser is incredible. It is the closest thing comparably to Safari I would say, apart from the other options there are which are free. This is mostly good and has features that set it apart from the rest. Some annoyances I've found is that background audio has stopped working. Edge swipe screen gestures stopped working. Browser crashes. Animations are slow. No sync.
Best iOS Browser
Firefox is my go-to browser on desktop, mostly due to the extensions (UBlock in particular). Well, only way to get that on iOS is with this browser. End of discussion for me. The web is just unusable without it.
Unable to rotate screen!!!
I got this browser to use extensions but as soon as i realized i can't rotate the screen, i uninstalled it!!!! I need to be able to rotate the screen!!!!!!!!
Bookmarks Bar
There is no bookmarks bar for quick access to bookmarks.
Built in paywall feature doesn’t work.
Half-baked
Way too many bugs and missing features that already exist in WebKit.
All good but chrome extensions doesn't work.
Orion browser is fast and easy to use, but without Chrome extension support, it’s basically useless for me right now—might as well stick to something that actually works.
Extensions
Put extensions in another tab when they are being opend. They still don’t work
Does Not A Block YouTube Ads Anymore
The advantage of using Orion was its ability to bock ads on YouTube. Recently, it has begun to show ads when the video first loads. Thankfully it blocks midroll ads. But it has been a disappointment that ads are sneaking through.
Overall it is still better than using the YouTube app, but cracks are starting to show.
The browser itself functional and performs well. Swapping between tabs is snappy and I have not seen a decrease in performance like the other reviews state.
Love Kagi, Orion is good, needs a little work
It’s a little bit laggy when scrolling, and sometimes videos will start playing in the background when I leave the app, even if the video is paused. iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 18.3 public beta
