Amtrak Reviews

The Amtrak app has a big potential for improvement

Jan N from Sweden on

The app isn’t very logical for the customer in its structure. I think it would be good to have UX designer to work with different types of customers to find out how the app should be built. One example, if you buy a USA Rail Pass and what’s to order tickets. How do you in an easy way order leg after leg. So you can see how many legs are used, how many legs you have left, how can you see on the map how long is your leg or how long leg can you order, etc. Why don’t you register as a member of a reward program and every time you need to login twice, one for Amtrak and another for Rewards?

Performance is medium

Only US or canadian adresses are accepted within one’s profile?! Otherwise the app works most of the time, read NoT All the time as one would expect. When looking up a route on the app I get customs information that I do not get when looking up the same route online. Links in this customs information are not clickable though, which is useless.

Amtrak app too complicated to set up

I have tried to set up an account about 20 times but now given it up. It should be enough with email, password and maybe phonenumber in order to use it with Iphone passbook.

Only way to travel

I love trains!!

New version is trash

There are so many bugs and poorly designed, not fully thought out things in this new app. Clearly no testing was done. Basic things just don’t work properly.

I love Amtrak…

gbernardwandel on

United States

But I hate this new update I have used versions of the amtrak apps offered for over 10 years. I even remember the days when there was a contest to “tag-in” at stations you passed and accumulate points(not good for travel) as a fun game. They had a very decent easy to navigate app until this recent update. It’s really awful The way the information. Is partitioned makes it difficult to navigate. The sensitivity from my phone/thumb/app is not well attenuated so I often have to tap on an arrow more than once to get a window to open. When the window opens it’s not in view so I now have to scroll down to see any info that I’m trying to access. Will I adjust to it? Probably Is it a good direction? I think not A lot of apps are moving in similar directions and I have sensed for years these “innovations” are more about the software writers creating new patterns than it is about user-friendliness It forces me to stay on longer which just might be their rationale. I wish they could go back to the old layout Quicker and easier and since I have needed to change tickets on the fly much preferable It’s really too bad since I doubt they ever will Since I love amtrak and want to continue to ride I will use it But I’m very disappointed

Homepage is a giant credit card ad, still doesn’t support landscape on iPad

David Chartier on

They redesigned the app and turned the homepage into a giant ad for a credit card. I get Amtrak needs revenue but this ain’t the way. Plus, after all these years, it *still* doesn’t support landscape on iPad. Apps should be banned from the store if they don’t support landscape and portrait on iPad. I’m not joking. This is amateur hour.

App needs work

Mamayesky on

United States

Traveling on Amtrak has been fine but the app is terrible. I constantly need to delete it and download again. It freezes and it doesn’t switch travel days when looking to book. Also not a fan of the prices constantly changing and usually going up.

Awful app

Kendydsj on

United States

I tried buying a ticket multiple times, and it said it said “ there is something wrong with our system, try again” I tried this 3 TIMES. and it didn’t allow me to purchase it. During this time, someone else was able to purchase the coach ticket and I now am forced to spend $88 on a ticket instead of $46. What a disappointment.

Update 6.0 is disaster

thehowie on

Am a big fan of Amtrak. And while the prior app was not ideal, it worked. Current version is NOT ready for prime time. And while they are at it, why not integrate guest rewards into the app?
