Note for sour developer: your response sounds so very friendly and professional, that made me think I better not contact you at all. To stop using and uninstall, that goes without saying, don't sweat it. My review: I have been using Moves since 2013, and if I switch to a REAL Moves replacement, obviously I won't notice any difference in experience, other than satisfaction. Not with Arc, I keep noticing something's off with my experience. -BE A PART OF DEVELOPMENT This app will request money for development. Leaving bad rating in app review will trigger the developer. Commenting on some drawbacks may be considered as providing false information. If you want to use the app, I suggest to be active and involved in the development. -THIS APP MAY NOT BE FOR YOU I experience this myself, where after reviewing, the developer response is to ask me to uninstall and stop using. Done. Now I need to tell my friends to uninstall too. If you come here from "Moves alternative" articles, you could definitely skip this one, unless it has been revamped. Last updates I remember were like "added skiing, tram, snowboarding etc transportation options." -NO CLOUD STORAGE Because Arc focuses on privacy, unlike Moves, it will store movement information on your device, mine has grown up to 300MB after 4 months. So roughly 900MB per year. If you plan to use for years, spare ~3GB for 3-4 years of use. Please note 16GB iPhone users. -BATTERY HOG After many updates, this is still a battery hog. Moves drains battery as much as Arc does (of course.) But when not moving, Arc says it is in "sleep" mode but still drains battery like it's in "recording." I checked my battery graph, with Arc running in the background vs. with Arc closed. Arc still drains battery overnight. (Yeah something wrong with my phone, but only when using Arc. Not happening when using Moves.) The iOS Battery monitor reports that Arc drains battery as much as 51% during the "sleep" time. Maybe it's just iOS fault, not Arc. Definitely Moves didn't do this. Maybe Arc also think this is false information. -CAN'T RUN IN BACKGROUND With Moves, I can even close the app and still get movement data, unlike Arc. (this part is where Arc developer thinks I'm providing false information.) I'll be positive here instead of keep saying sour words, that iOS 12 may be preventing apps to use location even when it's closed, despite Arc is listed in app store as "may use your location even when it isn't open" I too have no idea how t
Why allow only the map so have a dark version when everything else is retina-burningly bright? Honestly really annoyed this was overlooked.
I’m using an iPhone 13 Pro and this app is using unreasonable amounts of battery on days that I don’t leave the house and when I’m sleeping. I have to uninstall because it makes my phone die way too fast.
I wasn’t mad about subscribing- I think it’s a worthwhile feature that comes in handy often enough I would pay money for it. But coincidentally, now that I have been paying for a few months (and not really using its features) it’s suddenly broken. It’s useless. It doesn’t work. I thought maybe it’s from the app being closed out, but NOPE. I made sure the app was open yesterday and even today, it says there’s an empty timeline. I live that I’ve now wasted minimum of $15 just to find out this once handy, now expensive app is now unusable. Is this a scam?!
Instead of the promised increase in accuracy, the app is no longer identifying locations/stops at all, and it now consistently identifies walking as driving. Oh, and I never quit out of the app, so it’s running normally. Up until now it had been great. Now it’s mediocre.
Used for a long time. All it does is crash now.
I used this app for 2 years until the subscription was forced. During that time it worked mostly good. For me, the real value of this app was merely having a reliable history of my location. This app is really good at consistently logging your location and not being killed off in background like some other location trackers. Unfortunately the subscription was forced in order to get any functionality, and the entire app is locked behind a subscription page now. I can't imagine subscribing to a log of my own gps location data, so if you're a user like me who doesn't care about any of the ML and life logging features, I guess it's time to look elsewhere. I did read some confusing details that the author wrote in response to a critical review, but I still don't understand the subscription limitations. Unfortunately the app support link just goes to a marketing page that is devoid of support information. The confusion surrounding the subscription seems like it could be easily solved by putting an actual support page up.
Honestly I really want to love this app, but it’s hard to trust with how it failed to load my backup from a couple years ago. The price is reasonable, and anyone who wants to use it the backup feature appears to work at least if it’s recent. Just given me trust issues
Was surprised to see this app now requires a subscription. The monthly fee seems incredibly high considering what is being offered. Edit: after seeing the devs responses below, I can understand why the fee is present.
