BATTERY USE
Arc is only awake and using GPS when you are active and moving. For the rest of the day Arc stays in a low power sleep mode, with GPS turned off, to conserve battery.
On a typical day of two to three hours of travel a single full battery charge should last from morning to evening without requiring extra recharging during the day. However longer trips (for example a long hike or cross country drive) may consume more than expected battery, due to Arc needing to be awake and recording, with GPS activated, for the duration of the trip.
For longer trips, I recommend plugging your phone into a car charger or battery pack, to avoid unpleasant battery surprises.

Arc Timeline Reviews

Worse with each update.

Darrarski on

Poland

Last update bring paywall, so previously free app become paid. It’s ok, developer put a lot effort to build it for sure. Unfortunately the app started to crash regularly. Then, this update added dark mode, which does not work. All screens have white background. The map is black, switching it back to light mode in the settings does nothing. I’m no longer able to switch the map style either. So, previously free, stable app, that I relied on, now is paid and buggy. Please fix the bugs, or revert the app to previous version. Keep it paid, that’s totally fine, but don’t destroy the product by asking users to pay, while introducing bugs witch every new update.

Paywalled me from my data

Vaqxai on

Poland

I used it for about two years without issue as I was finally gapy to see an app that isn't just ficused on earning money. Where you could support the dev if you wanted. Today I launch it and there's a paywall. And it asks ridiculous prices. No access to my two years of data without paying. No further access to location tracking without paying. Sens kinda scammy to suddenly introduce something like that without any warning or even ability to get my old data. Anyways the entire subscription business model doesn't make sense here. The app runs locally, it isn't a service. I'd gladly pay once for it, but I am not going to pay a monthly or yearly fee. Overall extremely disappointed.

The menu/interface seriously needs a dark option.

Too bright dude on

United States

Why allow only the map so have a dark version when everything else is retina-burningly bright? Honestly really annoyed this was overlooked.

Utterly destroys battery life

Lav0c on

United States

I’m using an iPhone 13 Pro and this app is using unreasonable amounts of battery on days that I don’t leave the house and when I’m sleeping. I have to uninstall because it makes my phone die way too fast.

Useless and now costs money!

F022est on

United States

I wasn’t mad about subscribing- I think it’s a worthwhile feature that comes in handy often enough I would pay money for it. But coincidentally, now that I have been paying for a few months (and not really using its features) it’s suddenly broken. It’s useless. It doesn’t work. I thought maybe it’s from the app being closed out, but NOPE. I made sure the app was open yesterday and even today, it says there’s an empty timeline. I live that I’ve now wasted minimum of $15 just to find out this once handy, now expensive app is now unusable. Is this a scam?!

Latest update is a disaster

James Baxter on

United States

Instead of the promised increase in accuracy, the app is no longer identifying locations/stops at all, and it now consistently identifies walking as driving. Oh, and I never quit out of the app, so it’s running normally. Up until now it had been great. Now it’s mediocre.

Just crashes nothing else

servsite on

United States

Used for a long time. All it does is crash now.

Was great until the subscription

WarzauWynn on

United States

I used this app for 2 years until the subscription was forced. During that time it worked mostly good. For me, the real value of this app was merely having a reliable history of my location. This app is really good at consistently logging your location and not being killed off in background like some other location trackers. Unfortunately the subscription was forced in order to get any functionality, and the entire app is locked behind a subscription page now. I can't imagine subscribing to a log of my own gps location data, so if you're a user like me who doesn't care about any of the ML and life logging features, I guess it's time to look elsewhere. I did read some confusing details that the author wrote in response to a critical review, but I still don't understand the subscription limitations. Unfortunately the app support link just goes to a marketing page that is devoid of support information. The confusion surrounding the subscription seems like it could be easily solved by putting an actual support page up.

Great app with inconsistent backups

wittywiko on

United States

Honestly I really want to love this app, but it’s hard to trust with how it failed to load my backup from a couple years ago. The price is reasonable, and anyone who wants to use it the backup feature appears to work at least if it’s recent. Just given me trust issues

Now requires subscription

kate7g on

United States

Was surprised to see this app now requires a subscription. The monthly fee seems incredibly high considering what is being offered. Edit: after seeing the devs responses below, I can understand why the fee is present.
