Baldur's Gate Reviews

In App purchase cannot be restored

This is an error known for at least 5 years and has never been fixed. I guess they don’t mind the extra money.

Just as good as I remember!

I spent a lot my school Hollidays playing this years ago when it came out and playing it again all these years later is amazing I remember where hidden items are and my way though the missions, beautifuly recreated on my iPad! And perfectly playable with no issues whatsoever, you have to have patience save the game lots before battles and carefully pick apart big groups to smash any enemies! I love it a true classic and very rewarding!

Controller Support.

This would be so much better with controller support.

Terrible

Can’t review the app properly as the aspect ratio on iPhone 11 is atrocious, almost half the screen is black but on either side of the phone, this makes this game basically unplayable on the phone, I would like to request a refund as this product is not fit for purpose

Really? Do you want me to smash my iPad?

I’ve been hearing about how amazing this game is for years. Perhaps it was 20 years ago. So far I’ve only got to the SUPER annoying tutorial. Not only do u have to keep clicking a specific button line by line to advance dialog, but the “tutors” keep spending a lot of time stating the obvious which just adds to the frustration. The voice caring is utterly appalling and cringeworthy - like an archetypal American teenager pretending to speak in other accents (but end up sounding American and nerdy in the worst sense of the word) and worse still other roles. The mage in particular has such awful voice acting it would be preferable to use nails on a chalkboard… Dreadful, but not ads dreadful as the “what’s taking so long” mechanic. If the devs were trying to get folks to smash their tablets then they’ve done a bang up job. I’d love to comment on the game proper but so far I’m stil stuck in the 7th circle of hell - sorry I meant this horrendous “tutorial”. Deleted, for my own sanity. This is the recommended action.

Deceiving & misleading

I bought both this IOS version and the PC version from steam because you are supposed to be able to transfer your save files between both versions. I’ve spent hours on Reddit, Beamdogs own forum, and YouTube etc talking to other players and trying so many methods to get this to work but it doesn’t. Beamdogs own website has a very old walkthrough that may have worked a long time ago but as of 2023, it simply doesn’t work anymore. Yes the iOS version is good on my iPad Pro, but I wouldn’t of bothered paying £10 for a game I have already paid £17 for on steam if I’d known about this save issue.

The best game ever. 1/5 anyway lol

First of all - I was 12 when this game was published for PC. It is a legend for me. Anyone who likes RPGs should play it at least once. I finished it 20 or even more times (14 characters I do remember). When I was a youngster I preferred playing this game over going to any holiday trip, no matter with who. 1/5 nevertheless. The experience cap is pure idiocy and ridiculousness, why on earth devs of EE didn’t think about giving an option to play without this stupid cap? Not mandatory, just in options. Was it so hard to think about it? Especially that higher levels need A LOT MORE xp, like in Diablo, so you won’t get more than 2, doubtebly 3 additional levels anyway. But you would feel like advancing anyway, yeah?! THE ONLY REASON there was a cap in the original Baldurs Gate is that devs didn’t make any spells over 5th level. So your spellcasters would probably end up with empty spell slots otherwise... But hello? They were made in the sequel, right? Even classes from sequel, you can play them in BG1:EE. Some spells from BG2 were added to BG1EE also. So WHY THE HELL KEEP THAT STUPID XP CAP?! Now I play with fighter/illusionist multi class and even before reaching Baldur’s Gate AT ALL YET, I’ve already reached 7/7 level cap. After finishing this game so many times you could call it metagaming maybe - but with full party, without any xp cheese. (Not going solo to Basilisk Garden to farm them the first thing in the game, for example). Just doing everything which could be done so far! It’s outrageous! Your character forgets how to learn anything at all. You kill powerful monsters, save cities and so on, but get no xp reward at all. Only occasionally new spells and items. This is just so stupid. Ugh. Just install this wonderful, amazing game on PC instead, get it modded, uncapping xp and you are all set for the best adventure in your life. It’s still worth it, needed to say. A great game. Not like Fallout 3, when I realised I’m probably not even at a half of the game and I reached level cap, I just uninstalled the game to never finish it. :-D BG is still worth your time and effort, a great adventure. But not giving an option to play without an XP cap in EE I just not acceptable.

I really would love to give this five stars.

I really would love to give this five stars. As it was meant to be a nostalgic trip in my past. However, when playing the game everything was just ridiculously speeded up. Is there any way I can slow down the game play to what it was in 1999/2000 when i first played. I really hope so. I know it sounds ridiculous that I am complaining about accelerated game play. However, when the characters sound so speeded up that they sound like Pinky and Perky it is an issue. I seriously would love to spend hours on this game again.

Not updated for any iPad Pro since 2018. Black borders and 30 frames per second are quite jarring.

I have bought this game and have been wanting to enjoy it however its not filling the screen on my iPad Pro 2021 11”. Ill come back to this one once the newest devices are supported. < Should not have black borders and 30 frames per second.

Tutorial

GrannyPercy on

Have the original and love the game. Have reloaded from apps to give it another whirl. Unfortunately a bug has developed and I can’t complete the tutorial. After creating a party the characters apart from the lead all end up in the same place and no one moves! Is there a simple fix for this, please let me know.
