Description

Bay Wheels is the Bay Area’s premier bikeshare system, and one of the largest in the nation. Get access to thousands of bikes and see public transit schedules around you in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville, and San Jose. Best of all, it’s available 24/7.

Bay Wheels consists of a fleet of specially-designed, sturdy, and durable electric bikes that can be accessed throughout the Bay Area, as well as classic bikes that are locked into a network of docking stations in Bay Area cities. Our bikes can be unlocked from one station and returned to any other station in the system, making them ideal for one-way trips. Bikeshare is a greener, healthier way to get around — whether you’re commuting, running errands, meeting friends, or exploring in a new city.

The Bay wheels App gives you access to thousands of bikes in your area — unlock and pay directly from the app and get going. You can also get walking directions and see public transit schedules to help you easily get to bike stations.

The Bay Wheels App also shows upcoming public transit departures, including BART trains, Caltrain rail lines, the Tamien-San Jose shuttle, MUNI buses, MUNI Metro light rail, MUNI cable cars, MUNI trolleys, AC Transit Local & Transbay buses, VTA light rail, VTA Local buses, VTA Rapid buses, VTA Express buses, VTA ACE shuttles, Golden Gate Ferries, Sonoma County Buses, Sonoma County connectors & shuttles, SF Bay Ferries, the Angel Isl. Tiburon Ferry, the SMART train, Marin Transit buses, SamTrans Local & Express buses, Stanford Marguerite buses and the SFO Airtrain.

Repair workflow is poorly designed. But app is great!

GreenLover82 on

The app is great! You’ve made it difficult to report needed repairs. 1. Many bikes need attention but don’t need to be taken out of service. 2. Reporting needed repairs is an inconsistent experience in the app. Sometimes you can easily report what needs to be repaired and sometimes you can’t. Again many times, a bike needs some repair but doesn’t need to be taken out of commission. This is hurting rider experience and may be hurt business results. I’ll give you a higher app rating when you either make it easier to report needed maintenance or stop asking for reports altogether.

I love the service but the app no longer works!

Tom Foremski on

I cannot get it work on my iPhone 13! What’s going on?! I’ve been a member since the start in San Francisco.

Stealing money

Y. Pavlyshyn on

This company try to sell you day pass but they didn’t mention that this pass cannot be used for e-bikes. Also, after your ride it takes a lot of time to lock the bike because bike station doesn’t work correctly. Not recommended!

Why no apple watch app?

Adam_56 on

Often I don’t bring my phone, just my Apple Watch (w cellular) and I can’t unlock a bike that way. Let’s fix that please!

Apt does not show areas where parking bikes is not allowed

Jacq8766 on

The app no longer shows you the areas where parking is not allowed. So it shows the areas green and then you park the bike and then you get charged $25 and find out that you’re in a red zone

Scam Company

Terminationshok on

I have used this app for a few years. The bikes are poorly maintained garbage, but sometimes, I want to make a one way trip via bicycle, and this is not possible if you use your own bike. Much better to use a city bike instead of locking yours outside the store. Do not ride these bikes if things like “brakes” matter to you. Bent pedals, nasty seats. Docks are often non functional, empty, or full. The best part is when they scam you! “You parked wrong,” said the agent. That’s why they had stolen $25 and change off of my second credit card after the first card declined their fraudulent charges. “I didn’t park wrong, and I have pictures.” “Oh, in that case, sorry for the inconvenience.”

Complete Disappointment

anifushimi on

I recently used the bike ride app, and my experience has been far from satisfactory. Despite raising concerns about unclear day pass terms, the customer support response left much to be desired. The denial of a refund without addressing the issue adequately has left me frustrated. I find it necessary to caution others by formally complaining to the FTC. Transparency and customer service are crucial, and unfortunately, this app falls short in those aspects.

you managed to invent a bike that even bikers hate.

MiraFati on

The electric drivetrain on these bikes is absolute garbage, these should not be advertised as electric bikes. They are incapable of going up a hill. I had the pleasure of being charged $12 for a 15 minute bike ride in the rain, up mild hills, and it almost makes me wonder if this company is trying to dissuade people out of shared electric bike systems. Over-priced and failure to deliver.

Mostly broken bikes, too expensive

Frigò on

Between the broken bikes, the bikes that can only lock at docks, it’s a pretty terrible service in SF. Would not recommend using it

Bike Quality & Membership Issues

Stuart SF on

Been using Bay Wheels since it’s inception in SF. When Motivate ran the program the bikes we’re maintained well. Since Lyft took over the quality of breaks, batteries, and overall bikes have gone down month over month. My biggest frustration recently is they’re promotion of the new annual membership program. I have tried signing up multiple times through the app using Apple Pay, but it won’t register the membership or accept my payment. When I reached out to support they said use the website and that they wouldn’t refund the past few rides I paid for since attempting to sign up for an annual membership. This is clearly Lyft squeezing every dollar and trying to circumvent the App Store fees.
