Doesn’t work
I’ve used the free version on iOS for a few years. I don’t know what has happened but now I am unable to open any files, just says ‘waiting’. I have tried uninstalling and installing, iOS is latest version. This issue has gone on for a few weeks.
To be honest id give up on the app but as my files are encrypted I can’t save them elsewhere. Bit of a disaster.

Have been trying to connect to this account for the last two weeks, money has been removed from my account, plus I wanted a one year subscription it has been changed to two years. All I want now is to cancel the account.as for the review it will only accept favourable nicknames!!!
Works flawlessly
I had cryptomator for a while but was to worried of the vault messing up, and I had about 150gb vault and started to lag. This works better! I wish the files integration was an option and that there was a backup for folderkey
Bring back local account
The local account feature has been removed which means you have to create an account at boxcryptor to be able to access and decrypt your files. For this reason, I have deleted the app and will be looking for an alternative solution unless boxcryptor can bring back this feature.
Update: developer’s reply confirms you have to create a boxcryptor account
Love it
Great free app with YubiKey and FIDO U2F authentication support. Works fine for me. It allows me to use my Bitcoin hardware wallet to encrypt my sensitive files. The Linux portable version has been a bit buggy but this review is for the iOS app which has never let me down. :)
Good service but “files” integration has killed the app
Used to be a reasonable app, but recently you can only access your files through the iOS Files app. This sadly is really unreliable (the integration, not the Files app) and whilst it did work for a few days, the latest update has now left me unable to access any files on my device. The old version where the files are accessed through the Boxcryptor app was a lot better
Even better now!
I have been using the Boxcryptor app in conjunction with the desktop version for the past 4 years. Together they satisfy my requirements for secure storage of files and folders in the cloud.
The recent release (version 3.03) that integrates it fully with the Files app has made it much more convenient to use on my mobile devices.
Works OK but UI/UX needs an update
I have been using Boxcryptor since 2014. First with Dropbox, and now OneDrive (since they give me 1TB with Office365).
Boxcryptor is fairly unique and this mobile app has saved me on several occasions when I’ve needed to access my passport, driving license and other important documents when I was least expecting to need them.
Having said that, this app looks like it is still stuck in 2014 when I first subscribed. The desktop app UI is not much better.
Competition in the space is finally heating up with alternatives from companies like Nordlocker. Nordlocker doesn’t have a mobile app, and is very restrictive in terms of how much data you can store on the cloud on the premium plan.
However, I expect this space to evolve quite rapidly over the next few years and I look forward to better designed alternatives to Boxcryptor.
App needs improving
App needs major improvements to make it slicker, to improve options for moving files between folders. The app doesn’t feel very intuitive.
No Package File Support
Sadly this iOS version of Boxcryptor is rendered useless for me as it cannot handle macOS/iOS package (bundle) files, instead seeing them as normal folders and drilling down inside. This file type is widespread within the world of Apple and with Boxcryptor unable to read/write this format correctly on iOS, I lose the ability to work with many of my encrypted files while on the move with just an iPad/iPhone.
