I use it everyday to sleep, to wake up, get things done, and to meditate!
I don’t just mean it helps with focus. It helps me get back to centered if I feel overstimulated. The relax setting is consistently good at waving away the stressful brain fog and paralysis. The creative focus setting really helps me with reading, I feel like I can comprehend and visualize what I'm reading with greater clarity, which really aids in my understanding. Honestly the effects can be profound and I think anyone with ADHD should give it a try.
After reading endless reviews, I expected amazing. As a CPA joining a CPA firm after a 7 year rest, it was an enormous challenge catching up with all the new technology, tax laws & accounting pronouncements. Brain fm provided that extra boost, I was placed in charge of 2 of the firm’s largest clients within 4 months. I hope I don’t live to regret what my progress brought upon me 😆
I found this app through advertisement, and used it for schoolwork, but it turns out you only get a certain amount of time without having to subscribe/pay for it. Don’t get me wrong, it works extremely well, and it was really nice to be able to focus for once, but I do wish it was more accessible or had a free version with less options.
I have ADHD and suffer from severe difficulty focusing on a frequent basis. I’m also musically inclined so listening to normal music in the background is usually more distracting than helpful. I had heard trusted influencers recommend Brain.fm but I was skeptical at first because I already pay for music subscriptions and macOS and iOS come with native sounds of nature you can play on repeat so it seemed like I should be able to get by without spending more money, especially when it’s a significant amount. I tried looking up the research to see if it was legit studies proving the music actually helps someone focus and my attempts were inconclusive. Nevertheless, I tried the trial and noticed an immediate difference in my ability to focus. The music is not distracting but just fades into the background. I was also afraid it wouldn’t have enough diversity of music or genres to choose from but they actually have a ton of diversity and are continuously coming out with new tracks. I try new stuff all the time and haven’t yet heard it all. I also expanded to the other types of music, for meditation and for sleeping, when needed. Sometimes I get a little craving for real music in the background but I still want the cognitive effects of brain.fm so I will layer it by playing it from the brain.fm website a little softer volume than my Apple Music while I’m working and this works well. There of course is no magic bullet for ADHD but I have been using it for 30 straight weeks now and I believe it is an indispensable tool in my arsenal for treating ADHD without medication.
This app helps motivate me when I need to get going. I use the ‘Light Work’ music for that. When I need to concentrate I can use reading/learning/deep work and when I want to relax I use the ‘destress’ music on the relax music setting. This app is totally worth the cost and super useful. Thank you!
Been a subscriber for a long time but now I can’t access any content without paying for another subscription? So frustrating.
This is my main go-to productivity app. I use it like a modified pomodoro session of 30-mins in whatever genre I’m in the mood for and subscribe every year. Pretty remarkable how quickly distractions move to the background and I’m lulled into a flow state. Latest UI updates are confused - different durations selectable in different parts of the app and no memory of your last session means you have to hop through the several steps just to restart a 20-min session. Less is more here - help me get into the groove more easily! Would be great, and I think easy to implement user preferences for a default category and track time
I used this app off and on but there’s nothing too special about. Could probably find stuff off of YouTube to use instead. I had originally been subscribed through the app but then something happened so I had to go through the website. They don’t send renewal emails incase you want to cancel though. I was renewed for the year and it was $49.99 (emailed them immediately) and they wouldn’t refund me since it was a renewal and not a new account. Not a fan of that so I won’t use them again in the future.
