Awesome & frustrating
I’ve processed 460 raw files from my Panasonic GX8 with various lenses.
The whole workflow for flagging, discarding and processing raw photos is excellent. Easily the best option on iPad
BUT
- BUG: Blue/Purple hilights in RAW files can be incorrectly processed causing them to end up saturated or black instead of white. Looks like an FP16 overflow issue.
- BUG: It gets confused about which photo is selected I’d the editor and can fail to apply edits when flipping between photos
- Curve editor is malnourished
- No noise reduction
- Doesn’t keep a copy of working edits in memory when flipping between photos so it can be difficult to compare 2 similar photos because it takes time for iPad to reapply edits.
- Imported view is useless, why can’t I empty it after I’ve processed all the imported photos?
- Rejected shows you the total photos ever deleted. How is that even useful?
Three years and still love this photo editor.
Quick, easy and excellent editing without hugh cost. Even if you use a big powerful editor this is an excellent back up. I tried the yearly subscription and upgraded to lifetime.
Glitch and more glitch
I’m so done with Darkroom. So glitchy, simple things like “Copy and Past” edit is problematic, doesn’t work that well.
Hmm…
I cancelled this subscription weeks ago and was billed for it today. It now says it’s cancelled as of October.10th. So this was a cancel after we charge another month’s subscription? My star rating is a reflection of this, I actually enjoyed the app.

You can buy a lifetime license!
Please don’t ever change this. I love that you don’t have to get a subscription and we need more apps that do this.

JPEG exports don’t match what I see inside the app
When I view the pictures in the iPhones native photos app the pictures vary from slightly to darker to much darker of what I see while using the app. App also creates duplicates of images making file management an absolute mess
Frustrating at worst, Not great at best.
I really wanted to like this app but after a few months of use I can't think of anyone I would recommend this to.
I liked the subscription/purchase options in comparison to Lightroom so I figured I would try this out. It's quite a shift to work (pretty much) exclusively from your apple photos, particularly if you're just using apps like this to primarily edit RAW photos from a camera that isn't your phone.
Importing RAW files was not at all intuitive, and worse - it crashes the app on Mac and iPadOS so often that I have given up on editing multiple times.
When I was able to get RAW files into this app, it was easy enough to use while still having access to more powerful tools. Converting/exporting to JPEG was easy and the photos came out looking good.
When not editing RAW photos however, I didn't find this app to be better than the standard Apple Photos app for quick edits. For a novice user it actually might be worse. When I tie this into the heavy integration with apple photos library, I really can't think of why I would go through the trouble of using this app.
This app is limited and frustrating to edit RAWs precisely with, and doesn't add enough value over apple photos to be worth the money. I therefore can't recommend this app to novice or or more power-users when I factor in the cost.
It's unfortunate as I really wanted a great alternative to Lightroom but this is not it.
