ADVANCED IMAGE CONTROLS

- Fast, intuitive focus and exposure controls: Tap the screen to set focus/exposure, tap again to lock.
- Shutter and ISO Priority Modes: In addition to auto exposure, you can set specific Shutter Speed or ISO values to adhere to and let the app automatically adjust exposure for the unlocked value.
- Cross-swipe manual controls: The most intuitive way to manually adjust focus and exposure. Swipe across the image to dial in your perfect shot. Swipe up and down to adjust exposure. Swipe left and right to adjust focus.
- Reactive analytics: A foundation feature of Filmic Pro and now in a photo app. Manually adjusting your focus and exposure will automatically apply focus peaking or zebra stripes to make sure you get your shot just right.
- RGB Histogram: Dynamically shows the exposure profile of the image across all color channels.

GET THE LOOK YOU WANT

- Vintage film simulations: The magic of Firstlight is in our realistic tributes to authentic film stocks.
- Film grain: Apply natural-looking, dynamically-generated film grain effects to give your photos that ‘film look’.
- Vignette: Apply a subtle dark vignette to your image.
- Lens selector: Quickly switch between all available lenses on your device. Go from tele to ultrawide with the tap of a finger. (Note: camera/lens support is device specific).

Rubbish

Albutie on

Using tele on my Iphone 14 pro just provides crop of 9mm lens of very poor quality.

Just Not Very Good

Ob<3 on

I didn’t get far enough into this app to start complaining about its subscription model. Instead, I stopped using it because it doesn’t come close to the native camera app in the quality of its output (on 14 Pro). I’m generally very disappointed with the camera on my iPhone having made the switch from other brands. Most of that disappointment comes from my inability to manually control the capture settings on the phone. This app is no better than the native app in that regard. It pretends you have manual control by letting you set one of either ISO or exposure time, with the setting you don’t choose being determined automatically. In a word, it’s awful. Full automatic is better. Admittedly, the native app sometimes produces wonderful photographs. I’ve never managed to get a comparable quality out of this app when doing side-by-side. It’s always a step or several behind in the fidelity it produces - you’ll get better post-processing options from the native app. It’s slower than the native app and eats battery. I shot a few dozen pics in the native app and the battery didn’t move one percent. I switched to this app and the battery plummeted 10% in minutes. More than anything, I can’t believe the native app is so poor on iPhone that these alternative apps are almost a necessity. I thought they were supposed to be premium devices? My old Lumia phones take better pictures. The hardware may be very outdated on those phones by now, but they had full manual control that let the user shoot the picture they wanted. What a rubbish camera platform iPhone has in comparison.

Don’t waste your money

Pretty terrible application. I signed up for the free trial but they make it impossible to cancel it. The app doesn’t have half of the functions you would expect and all my pictures are being saved blurry even though the shot was clear as?

Not for the iPhone 14 Pro Max

Pentoo on

When selecting the main camera the app takes 12mp size (pixels) thus not taking advantage of the 48mp camera!

Mostly good

The manual focus on objects out of range of automatic focusing is excellent. I can’t say it’s dramatically better than the standard camera app, but more control. However if listening to music and using the volume button to snap it changes the volume. Very tiresome and I’ve never encountered this before.

Only needs a couple improvements

This is easily my favourite camera app, the film and grain simulations are some of the only accurate representations I have gotten on any digital camera with pre production. However I do wish you could create your own presets for quick access. For example a black and white + high grain preset for quick access, or a gold with low grain etc. I also wish you could film with this app but I know that's not the intended use

not stable yet

See far on

plus why if i select dng it saves as jpg and raw and the size is 1mb if i would need jpg i will select jpg make raw be raw

Good app but HDR doesn’t stay off

Fazzy- on

I have no problem with this app besides the fact that HDR keeps getting switched on every time I launch the app and I have to switch it off manually.

Poor

Wye Photography on

1. jpg quality WORSE than the native camera app. 2. Does NOT auto-rotate stills shot in landscape orientation, native camera app DOES. 3. Does NOT ‘remember’ settings, the native camera app DOES. I want to shoot in raw/dng and it is bloody frustrating when you have to set this EVERY TIME. That’s just for starters. 4. DELETED.

A UI designed for photographers.

Update: Great to see a new update for the app, but sad there still isn’t support for persisting the image type (japes/RAW etc) across uses This app is fantastic for landscape photography. Its developer realised that for snaps you can’t better the built in camera app, but for when you want manual controls (eg setting ISO to minimise noise and maximise dynamic range) this app puts you straight in that mode. The cross swipe for exposure and focus means I am straight into adjusting those without studying buttons, menus and making precise swipes. Direct access to exposure and focus changes is made even better with the zebras and peaking complementing these two features. There are two fiddly bits that get annoying - as I have to reset them every time I launch the app: 1) The app doesn’t persist the file type for each lens. I want to always be shooting RAW on wide and tele, but I have to reset every time. 2) Setting the ISO to lowest every time is a pain. In an ideal world I would love each lens to remember I left it on ISO priority and which value. As a pragmatic solution, I wish it didn’t loop from lowest to highest ISO - as this means I can’t just spin to the lowest and know it will stop at that value, it just goes round and round. Overall a great app with fantastic user interface that isn’t over burdening with annoying feature creep. Though a level would be a wonderful addition :-)
