In FTL you experience the atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape, power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.
Key Features:
- Give orders to your crew, manage ship power distribution and choose weapon targets in the heat of battle.
- Pause the game mid-combat to evaluate your strategy and give orders.
- Upgrade your ship and unlock new ones with the help of seven diverse alien races.
- Hundreds of text based encounters will force you to make tough decisions.
- Each play-through will feature different enemies, events, and results to your decisions. No two play-throughs will be quite the same.
- Permadeath means when you die, there's no coming back. The constant threat of defeat adds importance and tension to every action.

FTL: Faster Than Light Reviews
Great Game
FTL, along with Dwarf Fortress and the latest, the Banished Vault are 3 games I spend hours on and have never really "won". It’s never the same each time you play. Making decisions and traversing the sectors keeps me coming back. Unlocking shops and layouts keeps me coming back for 1 more adventure. Glad I made this purchase years back.
They say skill is needed...
...turns out that that's wrong. Skill is needed for each battle or decision, but luck is the thing that decides the battles and situations to come in the game. Simply put, there's no strategy to win, you win only if the game wants you to. And the game NEVER wanted me to win, along with many others, making it unenjoyable. Promising at first, until you discover the truth. Not worth it, despite all the good reviews. Buying the game is as good as buying a rigged Random Number Generator—not fun at all.
Awesome game
Bought it on Mac, and bought it on iOS 1 year later. It's tough to play, but great for anyone seeking a real thinking challenge. Sometimes the game is unwinable, actually most times on higher difficulty. Just take it as your kobayashi Maru.
Worst game ever.
This game is more of a lucky based game than a actual strategy game, regret buying this awful game.
Just one more stage
This game is addictive with the random events and the against-the-odds challenges. Experience on the iPad Mini is excellent with the game similar in feel to the PC version.
It will be great, however, to be able to play it on the iPhone 6+ that has a screen size sufficient to accomodate most of the GUI.
Best game ported into the iPad. Needs save game function.
Faster than light is a dream come true. If you are a star trek fan and always wanted to pilot a spaceship, this is the game for you. The random events, the customization of ship and crew, the combat system, the 16-bit graphics — they are all perfect for a retro strategic gamer like me.
However, that being said, do not expect to find victory easy on your quest. I have won around only 10% of the time, and the game can be a little too punishing because there are so many ways you can make a fatal flaw ending in permanent death for everyone in outer space. The pause button is king.
But that never stopped me from starting a new game over and over again. If you're a serious gamer who likes strategy, tactics and exploration, this is the best game for you.
P.S. 1. Each game is around at least 1-2 hours. Be ready to burn your time away. 2. It is better playing this game on the iPad than PC for me because it lets me play it on the go.
Could the developers create a save slot function PLEASE?
The new updates created a new sound issue on ipad2
Game is great, but now with the new updates, I am not hearing any sound from my ipad2 and need to restart the ipad to resolve it
Best game ever, just please give me an iap for save game
Best ever. Wonderful game, better than other flashy games. Just give me an iap for save game or easier mode (cheat mode) or just slower rebel fleet speed since easy mode is still hard vs flagship. Once in a while i just want to explore a bit more. It is ok if this mode does not allow achievements. I just want to enjoy exploring the galaxy..
fans of space strategy
must get game of the year :) great port from the PC. flawless!!!!!! i was a big fan of the PC version and i hesitated due to the price of this. never regretted.
Lack of sync with PC version
Great game but the inability to sync saved games with the PC version mars the experience. I would think that save sync would be essential for a game with such heavy emphasis on unlockables.
