Groove Rider GR-16 is a professional step-sequenced groove box, inspired by professional hardware drum machines and rhythm boxes. It has a powerful Poison-202 based two oscillator synthesizer engine, plus a big variety of included PCM drum samples, insert/send/master effects, arpeggiator, automation recording, modulator, ADSR and filter block, and more! I wasn’t sure about getting this due to concerns that it would be like going back to the days of hardware with serious limitations and tedious programming methodology. I still struggle a little with the old fashioned way of programming but the sound capabilities are worth the effort. I can’t understand why anyone still wants to pay close to a grand for a hardware box that can’t do half of what this can without the cost of power supplies, cables, sync issues, need for expensive hardware mixers and all of that. This is going to take some mastering but I have been getting such amazing bass and drum sounds so far that I am going to put the time in. Although impressive I am not into any of the styles in the presets apart from two but if you want a dub machine for great bass and drums this could be for you.

Wasn’t too impressed when I first downloaded it and ended up getting rid of it to free up space on my phone... but I installed it again on my new phone and was suitably impressed by how much the iPhone version has improved.
Perfect for jamming away to pass the time on boring commutes to and from work.
Not used it as part of my home set up but for now it does exactly what I want from a portable groove box.

Best ever, but one thing’s still missing…
Best groovebox ever… but please please please add midi mapping for the 16 pads! And also a second LFO would be much appreciated… oh… and midi mapping for pads! But yeah, this groovebox really wins, even over many hardware ones. And, btw… if you could please add midi mapping for the pads… that would be super, the final touch!
Have I mentions how I would like to have midi mapping for the pads?
The best groovebox
I really recommend using this with Cubasis 3, it works absolutely perfectly. You get multi out so you can add effects to each track and the Cubasis song position syncs with the one in grooverider so you can locate where you want playback to start for editing.
The amount of control you have in this app is amazing, it’s easy to get every sound just as you want and the sequencer is great with different groove settings, probability and note ratcheting.

Best synth / sequencer app ever. so useable. so easy. So tweakable. Great sounds inside too. Even if this was just a sequencer it would be brilliant. It supports external midi. Tested it with iRig Midi2. Even works great on an iphone. Jim, take a bow, you’re a hero.
Awesome Groove Box Highly Recommend!
I have absolutely no experience of groovebox technology and wanted something fun to play with on my phone. As soon as I dowloaded it and had a little play I knew I had to have the techno pack to increase the sounds which I bought for £4.99. I was going to buy Korg Electribe WAVE but this was £10 cheaper and reviewers preferred this over wave and said this was better. Even at £18.99 plus £4.99 for the techno pack its still cheaper than WAVE. At first I found the whole machine quite complex and intimidating with its vast features, and I found my way around with alot of trial and error (and frustration). Determined the next morning, it just all clicked, i got it! The more I played the more I learnt, and the better the sounds with all the fx etc. I have a ton to learn still and am excited to learn more. Im rather annoyed that i am toying with this lovely groove box on an iphone 6 as I would like a bigger screen so may invest in an ipad just for this app! My intention is to use an ipad with a midi controller for a more hands on experience. No need to buy a hardware version of the electribe as this is all I need! This is basically my electribe! Worth every penny!

This is such a good music production app.
I've been mainly using iElectribe as it was my got-to drum/synth machine and GR just blows it out the planet.
The amount of work out into this is phenomenal, it's just a must-buy for anyone.

Excellent but finding it hard to use...
I’d been deliberating over a new fun app for years and after reading all the fab reviews I got this. It’s very hard to get your head around if you’re used to something like Cubase. Took me 2 days to get a basic beat down and copy it to other patterns. I tried changing the key of some bars but messed it up. I’ll have to read the manual again. Not many videos on YT on more advanced stuff, dissapointingly.
However I can “play” stuff in using my MIDI keyboard rather than programming it so that’s good. It would be awesome to be able to assign the arrow buttons andselection wheel on the left to my midi controller to save tapping on the little screen buttons ALL the time
The preset sound and synth side are really good. I really like that you can customise how patterns are stored eg I have it set to 16 x 16 so it’s like 16 songs, each with 16 patterns in. It’s ok but I could do with 50 x 16 as I have a 50 song setlist! Hmmmmm nyhoo it’s still early days so we’ll see.
