Description

Kaizen is the most accurate, personalised and adaptive training programme out there. If you're a new runner, returning from injury or hunting a new PB in the marathon, half marathon or other race distance; Kaizen is for you.

Kaizen analyses all your past race performances and recent training to provide you with an accurate race prediction (including a marathon finish time prediction). With this data, it builds a personalised training programme that sets you a weekly running target to reach each week in order to achieve your bigger goal. Kaizen gives you the flexibility to train how you like, without the rigidity of other generic training plans.

How can a flexible training plan get me to my goal?

Endurance training is all about the sum of the body of work. A common pitfall of aspiring runners is to place too much emphasis on individual workouts.

Kaizen is the Japanese principle of continuous improvement based on an idea that discrete, ongoing, granular changes can lead to significant benefits. The parallels extend scientifically to endurance running, and Kaizen distills this concept into an app that factors in every run to your predicted fitness, with an unwavering focus on the present (fitness) and future (training).

Kaizen abstracts away the noise that distracts runners from the thing that matters most; consistency, and provides you with clear targets to hit week after week to achieve your goal.

Bugginess

Can’t even get it to consistently log me in. Love the aesthetics but usability is terrible.

Not Much To See Here

This app has very little to no usefulness. They simply give you a goal and you do it. Then say it back up with “scientific data”. My advice to others is to not pay for this ridiculous app when I can do it myself on a Excel spreadsheet.

I want to like it but can’t.

I was hesitant to write a review 4 ish days into my free trial because I assumed the app was new and they were still working things out. It’s apparently 4 years old! My big problems are: 1. It’s so buggy. It’s like.. first 6 months of production buggy. Weeks I plan don’t show up. Runs I complete aren’t recorded in the weekly dashboard. 2. I have no idea how to use it lol. It’s not very intuitive and I like to think I’m fairly tech savvy usually. But there’s no FAQ, no tutorials, no nothing but a discord group no one’s active in. I get the premise of the app it’s literally USING it that’s confusing. 3. I also don’t really get the premise of the app. Basically they just tell you how many miles to run in a week to see the gains you want then you’re free to structure that how you want. But if you already know how to structure runs and how to pace don’t you also probably know how to scale mileage optimally? 4. You can’t plan runs in decimals. I run by percentage. So if I’m running 11 miles for the week, for example, Tuesday and Thursday are both 15% of my weekly mileage so I’ll run 1.65 both days. I round up for silly decimals but they don’t let you use decimals at all. Does no one in kaizen run an extra half mile ? End of the day it’s just not at all worth a subscription.

Almost there

I’m a huge fan of training this way, and I used JSET before switching to this app. Unfortunately I can’t get past some of the bugginess with this new app from Josh. All my training days are automatically logged as being the day prior for some reason. I can’t understand where to control my subscription. And I have struggled to get a plan that’s really accurate to where I am and what my goals are. Bottom line is I need to be able to just trust the numbers it’s feeding me and I don’t based on how buggy things still are.

Not much there

This doesn’t do much of what it advertises. Essentially just tracks your miles and predicts finishing times (which I am curious about the accuracy.) Got it thinking it would recommend workouts but in reality it is basically just a tracking app. Would not recommend spending money on it.

Like the idea but needs some work

halfagiraffe on

I really like the idea behind this app, but there are still some issues. The imported Strava data gets wonky being converted from kms to miles. The race predictor only gives a prediction for a marathon distance. And there isn’t enough personalization for the training plan. After selecting “improve fitness” both the gradual and higher intensity programs recommended the same weekly mileage- which was way too high for me.

Excited to use but some bugs persist

Great app, love the concept. The improve prediction section does not let you select your latest event, it hides under the submit button. Also the week planning tool shows the wrong paces even after converting from km to miles. Look forward to having these bugs improved as I am keen to use the app
