KORG Gadget 3

This is probably the most fun app for making electronic music on the iPad, it really has everything you need to make tracks if you prefer MIDI over audio recording. Hopefully the developers keep updating it with more interesting gadgets, like the REX file players Stockholm which opened and entire new world of possibilities. Thanks Korg, keep updating this app please. Edit in 2024: Gadget 3.0 is the best iOS music news I have heard in years. Gadget has been my favorite from the early days and auv3 has always been a dream, but they did more than that, play page, the new sampler gadget Sydney, the new effect UIs, the new 8 band eq and transient shaper…. all we missing now is effects and mastering tools on the main output channel, MIDI import per scene/track, global modulation sources (like LFOs you can hook up to any Gadget parameter) and better automation, for example with tools for drawing automation (shapes like saw, curves, etc. like how Drambo does automation). I think I will switch back to Gadget as my main iPad DAW now, just because I love how easy and stable it is, plus the UI looks so pretty. However there are some small annoying bugs I have discovered: User samples sometimes don’t seem to load when opening up a project or an user preset. Sometimes they show as N/A, other times they seem to be loaded but produce no sound until your reload them into the sampler Gadget. There is also stuck keys on the new Play page with the new keys with vertical velocity (great addition btw), when you play 2 keys right next to each other sometimes one of the keys gets stuck when you lift the finger from the screen, which ruins whatever melody or chord progression you were trying to play.

Hello! Why london vst samples cant be edited por changed anymore? Is there a san to unlock that function? It was possible before the update.

I’ve had many DAW’s on my iPad, but I keep coming back to this one. So compared to the others, I absolutely love the simplicity and creativity of getting back to the foundation of writing music. No tricks and sub routine programs to remember. Just straight up, let’s work! Very easy, which is how I like it. I own I believe just about all the Gadgets and love every one of them. Each unique in it own way. Graphics are beautiful in an old school kind of way, something I understand perfectly! Sounds are fantastics and I’m never lost. It doesn’t have a dozen screens to jump thru every time you want to do something. It doesn’t have complicated routings to take into consideration. And I can’t remember it ever crashing either. I say stop listening to all the hype producers put out about needing this auv3 module or effect just to get the perfect sound. The perfect sound is based on what you put into it, no magic box to remedy your production. A simplistic but incredibly powerful app is what it is. I like to refer to it as a writer’s app that will allow you to finish your product! No disappointments here. Thanks Korg. PS. The New Santa Ana and Sydney gadgets are truly amazing and a super useful addition to this app. Just awesome!

What happened? This app has always been so stable, but now it’s pausing and freezing very often. And it’s not just device related. I have iPad Pros 12.9 (M1), 11 (M2) and a Mini 6. This behavior is happening on all of them.

The app has really intuitive gadgets and controls, and the UI is really nice looking. There are a bunch of gadgets that are for purchase even after you buy the base app, but they are worth the money in my opinion. I’m using it with the Korg Nanokey Studio in native mode and it just works with no issue. I was using GarageBand to dabble in music creation, but that has bad midi support, so I’ve entered the gadget 3 ecosystem and so far, I do not regret it.
