This has to be the best camera app on the market for Leica cameras. Simple to use and once your image are transferred to your camera either by Wi-Fi or by using a cable the app seamlessly connects and integrate with Capture One, Lightroom or Darkroom app. Extends the functionality of your Q and M cameras along with the ability to update and install LUTs
Some good features but not great
-The app has a function for downloading images to iPhone but after downloading a dozen or so it crashes out. Another reason for its crashing is the camera going to sleep.
-The feature for controlling the camera for shooting is good but again slightest delay both camera and tge app go to sleep.
- it is a missed opportunity that the app doesn’t offer management of the menu items for example changing the order of favourites or other customisable feature.
-The Leica Foto app will not connects to the camera unless you switch the wifi on the phone off yet it has a feature to share or forward the images which is a contradiction; for example if you’re running out of space on memory stick then you can’t save your images to iCloud that enable you deleting files or formatting disk.
- Finally the Leica M has a built in memory and it would have made sense to access and clear the content using the app. It is not clear whether the app accessing this memory or there are any functionality.
Fotos has come of age
After a bit of a quirky and annoying start after 3 years of using Fotos everything melds together as it should. Q3 and M11m are super fast at wifi transfer to iPad and no more out of sync buggy filing….. honestly this is such a joy now , it is transparent and effective and the over wifi firmware updates are much easier when on the road. 5/5
Slow and unreliable
This app's functionality is just terrible. Yes, once you've got it connected, it works albeit with pretty basic functions. But getting it connected is never guaranteed, and even when it does connect, it takes an absolute age. It's a bit like using the internet in the mid-1990s.
Doesn’t work for D-lux
Photos do not show up app. Constant problems trying to connect camera to phone. Waste of time.
Impressive and indispensable
I was surprised at how easily the app connected to my camera and continues to do so. The download speed is very fast, so I haven’t bothered using a cable yet. I just performed a firmware update on Q3 and this too was seamless. Just click update on the app and it took care of everything else. Well done Leica.
Burning battery
I’m barely using the App but it’s my #1 battery user according to my iPhone. In past 24 hrs my iPhone says it’s been on screen just 6 minutes but has run in background for 3h46 (using 17% of my phone’s battery, with next highest App just 11%).
I’m fairly sure that if you wake your camera from the App but forget to disconnect (which is hidden in a settings menu) then the phone remains connected with Bluetooth burning through the battery in both until the phone dies. It might be why I went to bed with 80% charge in my Q3 and woke to a dead battery.
Shame, as it’s a good App otherwise. Easy to download photos to phone. Would be nice to be able to crop / edit in the App.
Rubbish that I can’t download video to my iPad
Using Dlux type 109 I can only download photos to my iPad.
Doesn’t work
No option to download photos. Utter waste of time. Regret buying Leica.
Hopeless
Doesn’t connect to my V-Lux for anything other than the most rudimentary remote operation that I’m not intersecting in anyway. No possibility to download images at all.
