Magic Earth Navigation & Maps Reviews
Awful!
I’ve downloaded the map because it had amazing features and you can put some locations on history and get there without signal but there is a problem with this app.
I’ve downloaded it for my school bus driver and every time when she gets to turn it can be annoying, “turn left and immediately turn right” it really confused the driver and cause her to go the wrong way which has made us late, whoever is seeing this review please do not download it, use Apple Maps or google maps instead or whatever maps you find.
Hopefully this mistake on magic earth gets fixed soon.
Good App
I tried this app when towing my caravan as you can put in the dimensions (as a truck) & it seems to be good at avoiding unsuitable roads, low bridges etc. it also works with CarPlay which is great. My only issue is the speed limit displays the ‘normal’ limit, not the limit for larger vehicles.
Disappointing.
Really wanted to like this app but can’t. I have a small motorhome and loved the way you can put in the vehicle dimensions to help.
Unfortunately that doesn’t actually work.
I have used the correct setting but still keep getting sent down inappropriate roads. It is making life worse.
In addition to this it is very bad at speed settings, doesn’t seem to recognise towns and villages that have lowered the limit to 20mph a while ago. Like it is very out of date. Rather sad but will have to stop using this app.
No instructions
No instruction as to how this works. Can’t make head nor tail of it
Mixed feelings now
Had been happy, and particularly with being able to do dimensions but around Newcastle it stopped the routing (Phone signal etc still good), in a remote part of France it took us up a dead end and in some rural areas no speed limits available. More frustratingly in Paris we came off a junction too early and it then spent 20 minutes trying to reroute us with no guidance whatsoever so we had to give up completely. Kind of a shame because it was encouraging.
Great app
Been using this for a year now since buying a motorhome and it’s been great to navigate places and avoid certain narrow roads and low bridges.
There is sometimes an odd glitch whereby when I get back into my car after been away in the van, you cannot close magic earth and switch to google. Seems intermittent and doesn't always happen now though since the last update. I just reboot my phone and it sorts it.
I’ve been recommending this to all other motorhomers in groups on fb when I’ve seen people asking for a good app to use for navigation.
Routed 9’ tall RV under 7’ high bridge.
If OpenStreetMap isn’t accurate enough for truck use, maybe you shouldn’t advertise truck use as a feature.
Rubbish
Surprising, I found out I have Watford International Airport a mile from my house. Odd as I have never seen it.
3 stars for now but would increase it to 5
3 stars for now but would increase it to 5 if the developers can sort out two problems: 1 - if you miss a turn, the app won’t recalculate a newer route , it will just make you turn back on your old route for quite some time 2- please put better voices in guidance, they all sound like they had covid and lost their voice Optional ( spoken road names ?) Good app overall, but still can’t yet compete with Google maps or Waze
Another problem is the app reporting speed cameras that are non existent
Useless on Watch
What's the point of having the App on your watch when it still needs to run on your phone at the same time??? Apple Maps works on it's own, and a few others, but Magic Earth has to have the phone App running?! Maps could be saved to the watch, so that can't be the excuse.
Make it work on the watch without having to open the App on the phone and leave it running.
