Moneydance Reviews

A good companion to the desktop app

mdiatchenko on

This app is very useful! Being able to look at account balances and to add manual transactions is very handy! Here's what I think will make the app even better: - view all transactions, not just last year - view attachments as well as add attachments (photo) - sync with multiple files - show category balances (as on the desktop app) My compliments on a great personal accounting software and hope my wishes above will be considered.

Ok, but could easily be better

Allows you to enter information, but would be useful to have graphing ability and show all accounts.

Nice interaction but one or two flaws

WombatSouth on

New Zealand

These two applications work well on my Mac (and the desktop version, a Java application, comes in many other flavours as well). The iPhone/iPod app is useful for keeping track of finances day-to-day. Two things could be improved. The sync facility does work but typically only the second time the app is started on my iPod. Secondly, the new entry screen in the iPod is quite dark and I find it hard to see the "Description" and "Category" fields in a bright light. I'd also like to see a change to prevent the need to delete the 0's from the amount field and for the "Payment" and "Deposit" buttons on the new entry field to switch between these options and not just indicate which one is selected.

Extremely Limited Capabilities

I download the app yesterday. Installing the app was easy and I had no problems linking it using Dropbox to my PC. But on the downside: It allows me to enter, edit and delete transactions, but not much more. It appears that there are no tools or preferences. I see that there supposedly is an ability to require a passphrase or biometrics to open the app, but I haven’t yet found how to do that. Overall it just seems like a very simple app that could stand some enhancements. Update: Upped my rating to 4 stars. I finally found the settings and figured out how to enable biometrics.

Compact and efficient

I used Quicken for years and barely scratched the surface. Plus I felt I was paying a subs for lots of things I did not use. Moneydance is more focused and much easier to develop budgets. Or perhaps I just figured it out. Either way no subscriptions!

Fails with Sonoma

Don’t bother. Product can’t sync via iCloud under Sonoma so requires a Dropbox account—developers are unequipped to resolve problem.

Good for recording expenses

This is the first I’ve use MD on my iPad. Previously used my MacBook Air. It works very well for recording my expenses while on vacation, but I’m disappointed that investment accounts are not supported. That’s the main reason for why I give it 3 stars.

Mobile App Good / Desktop App Needs Work

Crd1969 on

Love the convenience of the mobile app and it works very well. It’s the desktop app that needs some work before it could be considered a suitable replacement for Quicken. It can be a little quirky.

Great but Bad Customer Service

PMay61 on

I love it although I upgraded to the latest Money Dance and it would not work on my Mac. I had to use the previous version. I contacted them but they never got back to me.

Balances are off.

The balances are still off and haven’t been able to fix it. The solution you provided didn’t work. Otherwise I love the program.
