Moneydance FAQ
Is Moneydance free?
Yes, Moneydance is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Moneydance legit?
🤔 The Moneydance app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
I download the app yesterday. Installing the app was easy and I had no problems linking it using Dropbox to my PC. But on the downside: It allows me to enter, edit and delete transactions, but not much more. It appears that there are no tools or preferences. I see that there supposedly is an ability to require a passphrase or biometrics to open the app, but I haven’t yet found how to do that. Overall it just seems like a very simple app that could stand some enhancements.
Update: Upped my rating to 4 stars. I finally found the settings and figured out how to enable biometrics.
Compact and efficient
I used Quicken for years and barely scratched the surface. Plus I felt I was paying a subs for lots of things I did not use. Moneydance is more focused and much easier to develop budgets. Or perhaps I just figured it out. Either way no subscriptions!
Fails with Sonoma
Don’t bother. Product can’t sync via iCloud under Sonoma so requires a Dropbox account—developers are unequipped to resolve problem.
Good for recording expenses
This is the first I’ve use MD on my iPad. Previously used my MacBook Air. It works very well for recording my expenses while on vacation, but I’m disappointed that investment accounts are not supported. That’s the main reason for why I give it 3 stars.
Mobile App Good / Desktop App Needs Work
Love the convenience of the mobile app and it works very well. It’s the desktop app that needs some work before it could be considered a suitable replacement for Quicken. It can be a little quirky.
Great but Bad Customer Service
I love it although I upgraded to the latest Money Dance and it would not work on my Mac. I had to use the previous version. I contacted them but they never got back to me.
Balances are off.
The balances are still off and haven’t been able to fix it. The solution you provided didn’t work. Otherwise I love the program.
Can’t imagine Life & Business without it!
I have been using Moneydance for at least 10 years. I tried QuickBooks and threw it away, I could not get it to do what I needed WITHOUT A LOT of unnecessary effort.
A customer for Life.
Best Money Management Tool
I used Quickin for years before I switched to MoneyDance and it was the best move. I like that it’s easy to enter transactions on the go, and that it interfaces with my computer for more my more in depth reconciliations and budgeting.
Pretty much flawless application
My only complaint is this. It’s not intuitive enough for a Mac application. They have great support and answer questions promptly, but there should be more menu options. I used Quicken for years and never had to ask a question to generate a report, or how to add or remove items from the sidebar. Too many Option Click tricks to memorize.
