Opal Travel FAQ
Is Opal Travel free?
Yes, Opal Travel is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Opal Travel legit?
⚠️ The Opal Travel app has poor ratings and negative feedback. Users seem unsatisfied with its performance or features.
Having these tiny updates means that my perfectly good iPhone 7 doesn’t allow me to install the new iOS and therefore I cannot update the Opal software which means that I can’t program my opal card into the app.
All to get me to buy a new phone really, this happens with a lot of apps but when you forget your wallet, you have only your phone on you which means that I can’t pay the bus fare with a Visa card because it’s in my wallet, and I can’t use my opal card because it’s in my wallet.
Another gripe I have is that I can’t use my Opal card to pay for someone who is travelling with me. There’s been several occasions where I’ve had a companion who I’d like to pay for and can’t. Great if you are taking someone out on a date and want to catch the train some place together, “Sorry babe, you gotta pay for the trip yourself.”
And the bus drivers no longer accept money, after all, it is legal tender.
Great app but needs one improvement
This is a great app but when I try to add a saved trip in widgets it doesn’t work
Crashes every time in trip planner
Unusable app. Can’t use trip planner as it crashes as soon as you enter a destination.
Lucky country!
Having lived in the UK and travelled in other countries extensively, us Sydney-siders, I can say with some authority, are incredibly lucky to have the public transport system that we do – powered very competently by Opal!
Easy and convenient
Love opal is very practical don’t need to remember to carry coins anymore and is very economical
Super buggy
It’s useful for checking your balance but when I try to use some other features like trip planner the app crashes every single time, disappointing.
Tracking buses
Everything is great and easy to use and should have bus tracking. Put bus stop numbers to see where the bus are.
Should be a good app but fails
How many times I have waited for a bus that never comes , this app does not work as you might think, beware and be at least 7minutes early for buses in the inner west . Frustrating that this is not real time.
The widget doesn't work...
I submitted feedback through the app with a screenshot of how there are no saved trips to choose from in the widget (despite the fact that I have several saved trips in the app) and got a generic response with instructions how to install the widget :)
Several other reviewers mentioned this problem as well.
It serves its purpose…
Strange that we can’t add our Opal cards to our Wallet after all this time… and as for the new Widget, it just doesn’t work. Uninstalled, restarted… disappointing.
