Photomator Reviews

A great LrC Replacement

Marts_57 on

As a hobbyist Lightroom is way over the top for me, so when a photographer reviewed Photomator last year I had to try it. I like how I can save my images to the cloud without being forced to use a paid-for subscription service. I’ve set up my Synology NAS for remote access and am using Photomator on the iPad and my Macbook to edit and save photos to it when I am not at home. When at home my Desktop Mac accesses the files directly. One feature that I do miss is the ability to merge images to form a panoramic image. I take shots of a landscape in portrait mode on a tripod. Then in Lightroom I merge the images. This creates a large file that is then able to be cropped to set the correct frame without taking away too much data and degrading the image for printing.

Good but no clone tool

I have enjoyed using this app on desktop however when I use it on my iPad and iPhone, I find it frustrating how there is a lack of the clone tool that is on the desktop version of this app

Great But Unfinished

Overall a great program to use for editing RAW photos, although it is missing some features that I have used in other similar programs such as lens corrections and AI masking tools such as selctive mask. The current masking tools need are a bit hit and miss with subject/sky.

Grfeat Product and Much Simpler than Others

Love this product as I have Pixelator Pro for years. This is the best product for non-professionals on the market. Thanks, Aussie Gray Nomad

If you use Mac, iPhone and iPad, it’s a must app!

The masking functions are so powerful. I’ve been a Pixelmator Pro user for a long time. It’s a bit sad Pixelmator Pro doesn’t have these powerful masking functions. But anyway, I bought Photomator as well so my photos will look awesome with these 2 apps on my Mac! It’s worth every penny.

The App I've been looking for

So glad i discovered this app. So much to love about. Most importantly is the seamless integration with Apple Photos as well as folder integration. Also, I'm getting very good results with edits. It is missing a few important features though - for instance the ability to refine a sky mask. Also, the Histogram needs work in HDR edits - Lightroom does this very well.

More rent-seeking nonsense.

The app would be fine if it it were just a one-time purchase app, but it wants to turn basic photo editing software for your phone into a subscription service. I’d pay maybe $10 one time for this but not $13 per month forever.

Almost perfect.

If this had 'liquify' and 'clone' tool it would be completely perfect. Please.

Amost Great: But Missing A Few Features

MoganJones97 on

I am in the free trial of Photomator and after a couple of days, these are the features that I really wish it had. 1. Better Denoise: The denoise is okay, but at the moment the Lightroom AI denoise feature still sets the bar for me and this one unfortunately isn't comparable. Even if you packed a heavier feature Denoise version into Pixelmator pro, I'd be fine with that. (speaking of Pixelmator pro, please bring it to the iPad) 2. Dehaze: I think a dehaze feature is important to my photography and I find myself missing it when working in Photomator. A lot of landscape edits without dehaze quickly become difficult to work with. (and even portraiture) 3. Presets: The current presets are rudimentary. I wish there were better preset profiles, with more categories. I find myself using lightroom portrait presets a LOT as a good starting place for my edits. My partner has darker skin and I love that they cater to that. To begin with I had no idea how to edit medium and darker skin tones and Lightroom presets were very helpful with that; I think Photomator has an opportunity to grow in different preset categories. Another app that I'm contending with is Darkroom, and while it's still in its infancy, I really like their preset layout. It has an awesome feature to download options that other artists have created from their browse feature. I really love this idea and I think something similar would be a phenomenal addition to Photomator. I think with the combination of these types of features Photomator would easily be the best on the market. I'm heavily considering buying the lifetime package (I don't like subscriptions) because of how great Photomator is and the 3 things I've mentioned are where I could see Photomator improving and become not just a contender but a serious replacement for professionals using Lightroom.
