RTÉ Player

Well, the obvious reason would be that, as an ex-pat, still very interested in Ireland and what is happening in the country, I wish to keep abreast of opinions, and what makes the Irish tick. I am not a Fair City affectionado, but I do like Nationwide, the Late Late, Meaning of Life, and documentries…Also, catch up on the News ….Nothing earth-shattering, but it’s a nice contact with the oul sod..!

I would like to report a sound problem with the Apple TV app, the sound does not play on Homepods or Homepods mini the only way to hear the sound is to use Bluetooth equipment such as Airpods or the speakers of the TV. It seems that the app does not support the use of Apple speakers.

I am Irish living abroad and would like to stay connected to Irish TV but unfortunately my only possibility to do that legally is via the RTE player which offers a very paltry, unchanging selection of shows. Essentially, if you ignore the selection of unchanging old shows, that boils down to the News and the Late Late Show. Could you please consider the diaspora in your planning and consider a subscription service that offers a dynamic selection of the current RTE schedule ?

The application does not allow you to cast onto the television. Although it plays fine on the iPad, when you try to connect it using a HDMI cable, the screen goes blank.

This app has actually just been updated and the new version is actually worse than the version it replaced. RTÉ would actually be better continuing to eke out an existance in the analogue world as digital is clearly not for them

Hi, I love having RTÉ player however there are lots of programmes that I’d love to watch but unfortunately they’re not on the player. I live mainly in France. Regards, Eibhlín.

Has to be restarted 15/20 times in an hour, starts with no sound, crashes abruptly and repeatedly

Just got this on the iPad and it is excellent!

I mostly use the RTÉ Player to catch the news on my Apple TV. It’s an awful experience. You have to hunt through a clunky menu to find the news. When watching there are endless adds and no ability to easily scrub video when watching a programme, just some awful non-standard UI. Awful awful experience.

I’ve been trying to watch a series on the TV app, and in every single episode, I’ve been thrown out at some point. I got to episode 6 and this happened again only now it’s not letting me back in at all. Am reduced to watching on my phone. Not one bit impressed
