You can watch selected programmes live from RTÉ One, RTÉ 2 and RTÉ News Now plus catch up on a wide selection of programmes broadcast on RTÉ Television for up to 21 days after transmission.
Social sharing features allow you to share programmes via email, Facebook and Twitter. You can browse programmes by name, category, date or latest. You can save programmes as a favourite and pick up on a programme where you last viewed.
The RTÉ Player App supports AirPlay so you can watch programmes on the big screen using Apple TV.
While most RTÉ Player content can be accessed through the app, some programmes may not be available due to rights restrictions. We are continually looking to clear rights and add new programmes.
The RTÉ Player App uses streaming technology which means that you must be connected to the Internet in order to watch programmes. The app will automatically adjust video quality based on the speed of your WiFi connection.

It’s ok if I only want to watch first third of any episode
Driving me nuts. I’d like to support the app, I enjoy the selection of dramas on offer, but I can’t rejoin an episode where I stopped watching, it’s hard to follow any series when you get a blank screen one third of the way in where the adds should be, and any effort to stop or restart leads to nothing. Awful.
Disappointed Expat
This app is a half hearted attempt to say the least. It is slow, cumbersome and the content is poor. A step backwards from its predecessor RTÉ international, which was far from perfect, but at least had some decent content available to watch. Come on guys you can do better than this.
Disappointing
It’s exciting to find The RTÉ app to ease the home sickness but it runs very slow and frequently crashes. You would be brave to try to rewind or fast forward. Would be delighted if it ran well. Would be great to share links to content on social media. Hopefully a new version will fix all this.
Awful experience
I mostly use the RTÉ Player to catch the news on my Apple TV. It’s an awful experience. You have to hunt through a clunky menu to find the news. When watching there are endless adds and no ability to easily scrub video when watching a programme, just some awful non-standard UI. Awful awful experience.
Disappointing performance of app
I’ve been trying to watch a series on the TV app, and in every single episode, I’ve been thrown out at some point. I got to episode 6 and this happened again only now it’s not letting me back in at all. Am reduced to watching on my phone. Not one bit impressed

Rye Is good but there is way to many adds like I might get ten ads in on break it’s very laggy and I recommend rte fix it

App is absolutely deplorable, the amount of adds is crazy, app constantly pauses on very good network, crazy in this day and age of great apps.
So this is what the license gets us?
Just tried watching “Colin from accounts”. Great show but found it strangely difficult to follow after a few episodes. After investigating, it turns out the player can’t seem to understand sequence. Episodes played randomly from either season. Complete incompetence. I’d expect nothing less from RTE.
