Drawing from millions of wildlife observations on iNaturalist, Seek shows you lists of commonly recorded insects, birds, plants, amphibians, and more in your area. Scan the environment with the Seek Camera to identify organisms using the tree of life. Add different species to your observations and learn all about them in the process! The more observations you make, the more badges you’ll earn!

This is a great app for families who want to spend more time exploring nature together, and for anyone who wants to learn more about the life all around them.

It’s MEEEEE

Rubie maliao on

Love it but it identified my sister as a tulip and my guinea pig as a skunk but it still is a good app.

Like Pokemon Go but for plants

Totally free, easy to use, lots of information including native and endangered levels, only thing is it can use a lot of battery quickly. The iNaturalist forum is great as well for bringing up problems or wanted features

Excellent Thanks Peter

Surprisingly accurate. Two suggestions.

I use it for plants and it’s quite good even with New Zealand oddities. But there are two things that would make it really useful, rather than a curiosity. I would like to be able to choose a larger font for the species name display so I don’t need to be putting on and taking off my glasses every time I identify a plant. I would also like the species name to be on the actual photo since the photo does me little good later if I don’t remember the species. With these two features it would be far more practical to use and warrant five stars. Thanks.

Not very good, except for as a laugh.

This app thought a cat was an owl, and a rabbit eating a bright orange pointy carrot was a puffin.

Perfect plant ID pocket guide for field work

I use this app for field work in New Zealand. It’s helped me quickly and very accurately identify both native and introduced species and had been a fantastic learning tool for myself and my team.

Excellent App, just has an annoying pop up.

Great app, works incredibly well a lot of the time. It is however annoying having the Remember safety warning pop up every time you go to take a photo. Would be more usable if it only appeared once per user or had an option to disable it in the settings. It’s not useful. Thanks team overall great app!

Good idea

Brucelee456 on

Good idea for an app. My 10 year old son enjoys using it. However, the app crashes frequently when we try to take pictures and has difficulty identifying a large number of pictures we take of plants. For example, we took a picture of a cat once and it told us it was an amphibious creature. Will give it 5 stars when these issues are fixed.

Great upgrade

The new functionality is impressive! Thanks iNaturalist

Great idea, hopefully will improve

KCouper on

This app is simple to use and a great idea, but still very limited in what it can recognise. Would be great to have the option for users to make suggestions if we know what the species is. Would also be great if it displayed the species name and any other common names (eg the Māori names of New Zealand species)... would make it more useful for my students.
