Has got everything I would ask of a serious news app!
I’m afraid that we do not like the new app. In fact, we feel it is a complete waste of time, in which, we have felt bullied, ignored and there was no need to boast about how glorious it would turn out ! To be honest, we think there has been little change. The few changes are not real changes, just slightly different - e.g. the contents or ‘ book ‘ just have different frames, which, by the way, are less easy to see, for the elderly. What is the point of numbering the frames ( 25 of 175 ) ? We , elderly, can’t remember what happened 2 seconds ago, let alone remember nos of frames! The absolutely worst re the contents , is the fact that when one presses a frame, it takes at least 3 sec to load , whereas the old version appeared immediately! How can you claim it is faster ? We do detest it, when we are actually forced to accept these new things. We think that a few people may have complained re the set-up, but the vast majority, like us, didn’t complain, as we were entirely happy with the old version. I should imagine that the majority was in the latter. Why didn’t you give everyone the chance to say if they wanted anything changed ? The devil you know............springs to mind ! Forcing us to accept something, which has proved to be not well done, leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. Sorry, not worth 1/2 a star ! Sincerely, Walter & Jan Klein
The Telegraph is a kind of Pravda for UK radicalized OAPs. I have been a subscriber for two years - to get ‘another point’ of view. Terrible one-sided pseudo-journalism, to Boris Johnson what Pravda was to Leonid Breshnev. Uninteresting. And a clunky non-intuitive App that ties you in forever. Impossible to terminate subscription.
Almost no complaints - the Comment section is particularly good - highest quality writing I would say, out of all the broad sheets. It’s only the layout I would want to enhance - perhaps columns would be more appealing as in the paper version, rather than full page and would be easier to read. Great job and as an ex-pat, a real lifeline!
In the wake of Brexit I as an expat need in depth reporting and analysis of British politics. The Telegraph filled the need from a conservative viewpoint. The App is pretty good and finding relevant articles is quite quick. One drawback is that there is only one view, namely the replication of the print edition. The main drawback is that for some reason it is very power hungry. Reading for 30 minutes depletes power on my iPhone 6 by 25% or more.
Why can't you give the number of words needed in the cryptic crossword, e.g. 4,4,3, as you used to do? It was correct in yesterday's edition, but today it has again been omitted. This can't be rocker science. I have heard that this is only a problem got iPad users, but please remember that we also pay for our subscriptions. Thank you.
The heavily intrusive ads you have persistently forced upon your readership have with the latest incarnation of your iPad/iPhone app reached such a pathetically begging-to-be-noticed level that I have often resorted to reading the web version of the paper in my browser. Since a broad swathe of users don't actually read the adds and instead find them merely irritatingly ubiquitous, you are only making your app less attractive. The Times meanwhile has a far superior app and allows the e-mailing of articles to popularise the paper. It also allows an in-app web or dictionary search that your app used to have! Used to have but not any more: your app is becoming less fun to use and you will ultimately drive away users rather than gain new ones. Shame on you for totally ignoring your app users feedback. Try reading the iTunes reviews of your app instead of your ad revenue reports. And PLEASE desist from writing me another falsely fawning response in which you say the ads are a necessary add-in to finance the app. That's like saying "We understand your point but are obliged to completely ignore it". A mind-bogglingly thoughtless and user-unfriendly stance.
