Puzzles

Itrium on

Hi, The puzzle section of The Times has reverted to a format where the solutions are lost when the page flicks over or where the reader leaves a puzzle to return to it later on. I really don’t understand why this has happened as you had sorted it!! Additionally, the Quintagram isn’t working so that when you press the letter it doesn’t respond. This is so frustrating. Can you please sort it, Frustrated Times reader.

Bring back the old version.

Times Classic used to be a brilliant App. I was able to download the paper and read it offline…. Perfect for my needs! But now it always wants to download a new edition… which is not possible when travelling. Also the fonts on the crossword puzzles make it very difficult to read, particularly on the Sunday Times edition.

Falsely got my hopes up

After a couple of relatively trouble free months - Ok the pictures didn’t download properly - the app insists on re downloading every time I open it. So this is a 5 minute wait every time I want open it. What is wrong with you people?

Still poor

I thought I’d give it another try after cancelling my subscription following the disastrous “upgrade” So I’ve paid for the monthly app but when I click on TV listinng links it keeps asking me to subscribe and pay So I will have to cancel yet again. Why does it have to be like this?

Absolute rubbish

Donatolace on

The old Times app was perfect but this version is virtually unusable. Takes an age to download and downloads all sections at once whether you want to read them or not so at weekends takes for ever to download. Does not keep editions which are supposed to be kept for 7 days and each time I open my iPad it re downloads the paper. Complained since they changed the app but the Times ignores this.

Long-lasting bugs

ant and bee on

Content is fine but the developers need to fix: 1. A bug where the pages flip over two at once. Reported many times, with supporting data, over many years. Irritating. 2. Photo captions with too much text, which render as unreadable part sentences followed by elipses. 3. Subheaders which appear erroneously as plain text and mark long articles hard to scan through. This error is occurring way too often and there must be some procedural reason for content being messed up in this way.

Why can’t you award zero stars?

Update. Wow just read todays sport section and there are 5 articles that have been previously published 2-3 times previously….LAZY! UPDATE. A short while after posting my original review, I noticed that at least the edition was remembering where you were in an edition; the slipshod editing ( is that even happening?) is still very much present (repeated articles, sporadic flow of stories within sections etc etc)BUT the app team have fixed that ‘error’ and now we are back to being logged out, and forced to latest edition front page- did you employ a team of interns to design an edition for the TIKTOK generation? Laughable as to how this got through quality control. ORIGINAL POST;Many years as subscriber to digital edition, using app daily; this ‘classic’ update is truly awful and many steps backwards. WHO tests this before launch? Any Voice Of the Customer work undertaken re what to improve AND what to leave alone? The whole thing is a mess now. There is no bookmarking now wherein it would remember the exact point, and in what edition, you had exited the app at - now it just goes to home page every time you re-access, so either making you digest all content in one go or ensure you remember at what point you had exited. There is no logical flow to the sports section….a bit of football then some rugby, then back to football..and so on. Football match reports don’t give any summary of scorers, what minute etc - you have to dredge through the match report where some of the writers seem to have wandered into some form of storytelling mode, than sticking with the facts. Oh, and a bit of proofreading wouldn’t go amiss - so many typos. The latest Saturday edition was memorable in as such that so many sections had missing content (e.g. Money section had 1 article), that 2 updates have been applied ,at time of writing this, to address the missing content. Seems the strategy is to drive people to online content, by making a right mess of this app update. Currently reviewing other ‘quality’ offerings with a view to unsubscribing after many years loyalty

Why can’t I download the app

linsipod2 on

I recently found that I was having issues with the Times app and so deleted it, thinking I would reload it and see if the worked only to find it will no longer reload. This is rubbish. It means I have to go to the App Store every time I want to read the paper. About to cancel my subscription.

Update: Still really awful. Awful update, really awful.

Steve 787 on

You either need to cut your losses now and put this App back to the way it was before your last big update, or get a good App developer in to sort out your mess. Your other recent reviewers say what I would say, so no need to add to them. But I will: I am travelling at the moment and with a less than very fast connection, I consistently have a failed download for the Sunday Times, as the App now bundles every section together for one huge download. Good thinking guys!! Change for the sake of change. It’s awful. And what have you done to the crossword? My wife and I used to complete the crossword every evening - it’s now so un-user friendly we’re about to give it up. Please put it back the way it was.

New Classic App is useless

E!9vgzmoq on

I have subscribed for years but I’m thinking of cancelling because the new(!) app still has so many glitches. For example I haven’t been able to access the news in pictures this week. There’s also the repetition of articles I’ve read previously, whether by intent or because no one can be bothered to edit properly I don’t know.
