THR Remote Reviews

Nice

Functionality is pretty good, and the sound is amazing. But the app is not very responsive, and looks outdated. (Comparing to competitors)

No updates!

Is that ok?

Disconnects Constantly

I’d give this a 4 if it would connect to Bluetooth consistently and stay connected. There’s a slim chance chance it will actually connect when turned on, meaning that my device says it’s connected, but the app isn’t communicating with the amp. And then I have to go through the annoying dance of turning off and on the THR, closing and restarting the app in an attempt to get it to connect. Maybe I need to update the THR software? Idk but if so, the app should tell me if there is an update and how to install. Beyond the connectivity issue, which is by far the worst problem, there are lots of usability improvements that could be made: 1. I don’t want to swipe to access the other effects. These should be located at the bottom of the screen as category tabs. I don’t want to swipe 4 times to get to reverb. If there are too many categories to fit, make the tabs scrollable. 2. It would be nice if there was some kind of a tone guide to the different types of amps and cabinets and how to create specific tones by combining them. 3. Grouping the cabinets and giving more description about them 4. Remembering settings 5. Minor things such as being able to double tap the name of the preset to select all text, visual design padding is a mess. 6. A nice touch would be to have haptic feedback when you turn the dials.

Works fine for me

I’m running this on IPhone, it connects and controls amazingly, this little amp is so sweet for practice. It takes pedals well and does everything from Merle Haggard to Master of Puppets. It’s unbelievable that we can get this many tones in our rooms and control them from our phone. This app took an already awesome practice and creative platform and took it next level.

When it works, it’s decent.

But it rarely works. What’s the point of buying the amp?

Wow

Pretty much everything that can possibly go wrong presents itself here. Navigation between preset vs. user memory slot makes no sense. Unresponsive. Cab models change on the fly regardless of how you save them. Unstable overall functionality & constant crashes. Shoddy bluetooth syncing.

Nice concept but buggy and unsupported

Yamaha sells nice amps (ie, the THR30ii) but they put zero resources into supporting products. This app is a prime example- it hasn’t been updated in years and is buggy.

Very buggy and unreliable

Only works about 10% of the time. Most of the time I spend using this app is just troubleshooting trying to get it to pair with my amp. Had I known that this app was so awful I probably would have purchased a different amplifier.

Completely useless

It’s a nightmare to get the application to wirelessly connect to the amp….but when you IT DOESN’T DO ANYTHING. None of the settings in the remote app are picked up by the amp. You literally can’t control a single parameter remotely with an iPhone. Typical Yamaha product from the standpoint of mismanaging all the peripheral components. Sad that it’s a $600 amp, though. Yamaha, your customers deserve better.

Web 1.0

This definitely has the feel of using a PC in the 1990’s. Lots of things can hang up the functionality that you just have to detective on your own. If you can get it working, it does have some great tones.
