Description
The current paper-based process for the UNJSPF Certificate of Entitlement to prove a retiree’s/beneficiary’s eligibility for continued pension caters to over 70 thousand retirees and beneficiaries located in more than 190 countries. As it uses postal services, the process is very slow and cumbersome.
The App uses facial biometric technology, liveness check and geo-location to submit a Digital Certificate of Entitlement to a secure blockchain. Use of location makes it possible for retirees and beneficiaries paid under the two-track to also use the app.
All user data is stored securely either in the App or in data centres protected by UN Privileges and Immunity. No cloud-based services are used for processing of user information.
The paper-based CE will continue to be an option for the retires/beneficiaries who cannot/ do not want to use the app.

Very easy to use
Simple and quick with clear instructions
DCE
This is not a simple process. I had to have the help of my daughter, who is computer literate, and even she found the instructions difficult to follow. It took us quite some time to complete the process I do hope that future verifications are much simpler.
An easy update
The renewal of the digital certificate of entitlement was quick and easy. A great improvement!
Trouble getting started
This app appears to be in it’s early infancy which made it pretty frustrating to get going. First of all the validation video wouldn’t get going, several login and logouts eventually got me onto the call. Next once validated, the app wouldn’t recognise that I had already allowed push notifications. Thankfully the staff in NewYork and developers support were very helpful and quick in responding to get my app working. Some pretty clever infrastructure behind the app, surprising for its singular purpose. However, first experience out of the way, I expect smooth sailing from now on. One point to address will be that you have to go through the whole validation process again if you change your device. This doesn’t make much sense for a once a year app when mobile phones change almost annually.
Rubbish app with poor technical support from the fund
I was optimistic about this app and process until I had to complete my enrolment. I followed all processes correctly (with help from my family who took time off work to assist) and when it came time to run biometrics the app had a meltdown. I contacted the UNJSPF only to be told that I must have deleted the app and would have to complete the process again. I had the right version but they did not read any of my emails properly and after many email exchanges, I did not appreciate this assumption that I deleted the app. I am 88 years old and trying my best and extremely stressed and frustrated now by this process. They have got their proof of life but this process may just about be the death of me!
