Love the way you handle linke articles!! Great update!
The layout of the app is hardcoded to font size. If the smallest font size is selected, information density does not change rather the amount of whitespace in the app increases. Which is a horrible design decision. One which apparently will not be fixed as it has remained consistent since the app was acquired by the current developer. This may seem like a small complaint but in the age where 11"+ iPads exist, it's simply ludicrous.
I don’t care much for the design of the app and find the UX to be unintuitive, but the reader/display of articles in the best I’ve tried out of a half-dozen or so RSS apps - it’s really freaking good! I just wish the dev would add integration with Miniflux API, for that sweet, sweet, mark on scroll functionality that fever cant offer.
UI and gestures are buttery smooth and I love it. Full text extraction works really well and is presented beautifully. I would prefer some additional options for user customization, especially with the font. I do not like the default font in this app and there is no option to change it. Please update to allow for font customization! 🙏🏻
The app seems well designed, a different take on the RSS reader. I didn’t get to really give it a complete try though because I use miniflux, which supports fever and google reader APIs. Unread supports only fever of the two, and fever doesn’t support marking read on scroll. That’d be okay if there were other effective if there were perhaps other options, like “mark read all articles above” or below the selected article, but if there were such options I couldn’t find them. I’d love to give it another go if another compatible api was added.
I’ve been an avid and mostly happy NewsBlur user for over a decade. Despite my enthusiasm, zero percent of the friends I recommended it to declined to adopt it due to the complexity of the UI. Their loss, but there are issues to be sure. So when I recently discovered that I could continue using NewsBlur with my nearly 500 subscriptions I was intrigued. Now, after a week of using Unread as a front end I am quite happy. The Unread UI is clean and orderly, and the performance (once my recent articles have been refreshed) is good. I confess I’ll miss having each feed’s icon displayed, and I also lose all of the training I’ve done on NewsBlur. But Unread renders my articles better (after tuning with the Display option, which is brilliant) which eliminates some of the frustrations with NewsBlur. I’ll probably continue to rely on NewsBlur, at least for a while, to avoid the drudgery of copying all my subscriptions over to Unread. This was a great find!
Clean UI, full-screen/distraction-free reading, by far the best text parser out of all the popular rss readers/read-later apps I’ve tried… Pulls full article text, images, sub-headings, quotes, etc., perfectly nearly every time. Works great on both my iPhone and iPad. Developer is very responsive to help requests. Only downside is no Mac app at the moment, but it is currently in development according to website. Free version was enough for me, but decided to upgrade to premium to support the developer. Spend around an hour everyday reading my feeds in this app, so $19 a year is well worth it.
In terms of UI, this RSS reader is quite nice but it’s also very pricey with an annual subscription. If they allowed the app on the M1 Mac, it might be worth the price.
This is a great simple reader app. I love the gesture-based navigation. Clean and ergonomic design. A little difficult to figure out/discover all the app’s features. The only problem is that when reading articles you can’t see the clock on the screen’s upper left. I use rss readers during my work breaks, and need to see the time to know when my break is done.
- Does not show all articles - No navigation buttons, and the “swipe” does not work most of the time; there’s a reason people put in navigation buttons - There should be no reason to make an account. If’s literally just news articles why do I have to make an account to view the news??? Overall a very miserable 5 minutes. Uninstalling and not reinstalling :(
