disappointing
the device itself is fine, but the app is cumbersome and irritating to use. i spent $150 on the sensibo (really just an infrared transmitter) so i find it ridiculous that most simple software features are locked behind a subscription paywall. and homekit integration is disappointingly sparse, it displays as a thermostat and not an air conditioner, so misses things like fan mode, fan speed, and swing/louvre controls.
It can't understand
I am going to delete this app as it keeps telling me to set my location to "Always" I DO NOT like being told what to do by an app. I DO NOT WANT TO set my location to always. My location is my concern.
No privacy!
This app requires location, local network, Bluetooth and more. The device shouldn’t need internet access to work but it does.
Horrible company
Why is pure boost for Sensibo Air Pro suddenly ON and requiring a subscription to deactivate?
I was pretty happy with the basic features for the Sensibo Air Pro available in the free app, and like everyone else declined a subscription because the hardware is expensive enough. But now, after purchasing Sensibo air purifiers, Pure Boost is suddenly turned ON for the Sensibo Air Pro (ironically not the air purifiers) and I cannot disable it without a subscription. It wasn’t like that before? Is there some feature that got activated when I added more products to HomeKit? This is beyond frustrating especially since it determines there is poor air quality when every other sensor in the house has a good air quality reading.
Subscription rip off
Very basic controls supplied in the app. If you want ability to access any of the so called smart AC controls you need a yearly subscription. You can even access basic widget on your home screen without a subscription. Useless money grab!
Slow to respond
Servers appear to be based in Ireland. From Australia it can take several seconds for changes to go through and every so often the servers appear to be overloaded and requests do not through at all. This can go on for days to weeks at a time and I’ve wasted hours diagnosing it.
They could fix this by easily by allowing local network control but choose not to.
Blatant False Advertising
Get ready for the ACCC or lawsuits to get involved as their product BOX states AI features are included and makes no mention of an additional subscription to use them. They are in breach of consumer law, and setting themselves up for class action settlement.
Decent product but subscription not fair
The sensor and controller are excellent but the experience is dampened by an app that you have to pay more for half the features, many of which are arbitrary as they don’t appear to cost more to run.
Most frustratingly, they have done nothing to improve climate react in over two years. You can’t set multiple thresholds or have different triggers. For example, I want dry mode to turn on for a humidity trigger but off when it becomes too cold. Apparently letting me do that has never occurred to the developer even when I pay a subscription.
Requires subscription for some features
Installed the app for a new Sensibo Air. The hardware works (though the setup was messy and involved multiple resets), and basic software features work also.
But beware: advanced automation features require an ongoing paid subscription. For example: reacting to climate is free, and reacting to geofencing is free, but combined? You have to keep paying. Controls in the app are free, but a widget on the Home Screen? You have to keep paying.
I was not expecting this after purchasing the hardware, and to be honest it feels like a bit of a bait-and-switch. This kind of automation is why I wanted this device instead of the old-school remote control.
To be clear: the basic functionality remains free (of course after purchasing the accompanying hardware). The developers appear to be justifying the extra (optional) subscription as advanced AI features. But I don’t want AI, I just want to combine simple automation rules, or use a widget.
To be honest, this was enough of an unpleasant surprise that it has soured me on purchasing more units for other rooms in the house.
So so good
I feel like Sensibo has changed my life for the better.
I can make sure the house doesn’t get too hot or cold when I’m out. Either by checking and manually adjusting, by scheduling it or by setting a temperature parameter so it changes itself if it gets too hot or cold.
I have set up with Google home too so I can verbally adjust it.
Compared to not knowing the temp, having to dig up the remote or leaving the air con on all day because it’ll be too hot at 3pm, it’s FANTASTIC!
Side note - don’t know why the last reviewer talked about scheduling being behind a paywall, it’s just not. I don’t pay a subscription and I can do it all. I don’t care about it getting fancy with bom integration or needing it to suggest schedules I know myself so haven’t subscribed for that stuff.
How wonderful to be able to adjust the aircon that’s in the next room from my bed without having to get up and use the remote!
Brilliant! Love it
P.s. this is the best review I think I’ve ever given a product. I have recommended Sensibo to so many of my family and friends.
