Speakly: Learn Languages Fast

Speakly uses a similar gamified system as Duolingo but with much more practical vocabulary & conversations. Lets just say I haven’t said “I am a cat” or “a boy and an orange” even once! But that’s not it…They also built an extensive library of story-mode speaking and listening exercises that resembles Pimsleur style of learning. This is literally best of both world. Absolutely an underrated app at fraction of a price. Hope they keep at it and introduce new languages — A friend who’s learning Japanese would love something like this!

Hello please add Dutch. I use the free membership for Russian but I will buy lifetime if you add Dutch I’m only waiting for it to be added. Thank you it’s the greatest language learning app.

This app teaches very practical, useful phrases that are not introduced in other courses until far later for some reason. It’s improved my French a lot! I love the self reporting flash card style of learning. It would be great if free users could occasionally watch ads to get access to some other features like continue learning that day.

I’ve been trying out the Pro version for almost 10 days. The app is great, I love learning words by reviewing sentences instead of just one word at a time. I feel like I’m learning actual relevant words. I love that they have “live situations” where you practice conversations, and they also give you listening exercises and songs. All great features. The UI is nice, it isn’t clunky and is easy to move around the app. The gamification of the app is also great, I always feel like I want to earn more points which is good for keeping consistency. An improvement to the app would be the review section. I find this part of the app annoying. You have a few options for reviewing words. You can review words that you have a score of weak or medium on, or review recent words you learned. You can also review individual words. Reviewing individual words feels kinda useless because. It gives you one or two flash cards with the same word on it, which kinda defeats the purpose because I’m not going to forget the word I just clicked on! I’d like if I could select a few words to review myself. I find myself self identifying words that I don’t know that great, but maybe the “algorithm” didn’t pick up on because I got the question right by chance (since you usually see the first letter of the word). I’d also like to be able to search for a word in the dictionary and see what it means as I find myself needing a reminder. Also, when doing the exercises, I want to be able click on individual words to see what they mean, even the words that I just guessed. Sometimes I remember the phrase I just guessed, but I want to see what the individual words in it mean to remind myself. I will keep going with the app for a few hundred more words as it seems like a good app to learn, but hopefully we can see some improvements. I hope the app gets continuous updates! Thank you for the app!

I didn’t make it past the login screen because I can’t be bothered to invent and remember passwords. Would be nice if it worked with the iOS password manager.

I’ve been learning German since I was 8 years old but it’s just never stuck and I’ve never been super motivated to make it stick. This app helps it to really stick and makes me want to keep going! My only critique is that when you go to review words, you have to review 100 words at a time and they aren’t mixed or randomized, so you end up just reviewing the same 30 over and over again. I would appreciate if these words were shuffled so that it is equally dispersed when reviewing.

It’s really cool and I’m amazed how fast I am learning but PLEASE put more free stuff ex: if the mic isn’t free how do I know to pronounce some words?

This is the fourth method that I have used to learn a language and by far the best. Introducing words as part of a sentence is much better than on their own. I would highly recommend this.

Awesome app, worth getting premium. Only thing is that on the multiple choice questions, sometimes the answers are cut and you can’t read what you are supposed to choose

I find the method of teaching pretty good - however I use the app rigorously while also self teaching and living in a Spanish speaking country so take that with a grain of salt. The app itself is absolutely atrocious. I’ve reached out to help multiple times regarding Kutu olé issues and each time it’s written off as a bug. No solution, no timeline for it to be fixed. Awful customer service, they basically just validate your complaint and that’s it. So be aware - the company just isn’t willing to invest in better tech or updates as I see the same issues mentioned in other reviews from October 2021 and earlier.
