Don’t install because you can’t export out in the future.

They were doing great until they discontinued their desktop app. That was the main selling point for me. I work in an environment where cell phones and smart watches are forbidden, so having the desktop app was a crucial aspect for me. Now I have to find a new app.

This is a very secure way to protect your account. There’s no one that can log into your account. I absolutely hate the horrible, almost indecipherable, fuzzy, hard to see pictures showing crosswalks, stairs, bicycles, cars , brudges, or motorcycles that I have to keep proving I am not a robot every time even after logging in from my same phone 1000 times!!!! It still thinks I am a robot using my cell phone and same ip, which is face ID protected anyway. Then the entire log in us also face-ID protected. .Then I have to get busy copy/pasting security numbers , using Face ID, switching from Authy to my exchange with a 15 second window of opportunity. My clipboard no longer wirks so I have to remember the 7 digit number. In order to withdraw money, I have to log in to Gemini app and go to Authy, find Authy messages, open message and approve my withdrawal. All in all, its very hard to use and I cuss a lot, but no one can get into your account. After using Authy for years, it’s still hard to use. But it’s super secure!! You won’t get in for a while either while you are figuring out how.

Look, I know there’s all theses 5 star reviews but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD USE ANY OTHER APP I have been trying to recover my password and turns out, it’s impossible to recover and now I have to endlessly guess what it is. So if I log out of discord I can never log back in Thanks authy :) (Fix your app)

Ironically, a two-step authentication service is not secure, as there was a data breach from Twilio that left tons of people’s data on the dark web. Do not use this.

Phone number and password was compromised in a massive data breach July 2024 Just use KeePass for any Password/OTP database. Learn to use local only managers that sync with mesh networks like Syncthing, don’t risk your credentials with stuff that’s on the cloud.

I had to find out about a huge data leak Authy had through the media. Weeks after it happened still no official communication about what happened to my data and what remedies are being put in place. Security apps need trust. That trust was damaged.

This app was hacked recently, with attackers gaining access to 33 million phone numbers and associated devices. And for a security focussed app, it was due to an unauthenticated endpoint.

If you haven’t already heard, Authy recently got hacked, leaking 33 MILLION phone numbers. And the worst part is, this isn’t even the first time such a MASSIVE incident has occurred in this dubious 2FA app’s history. In August 2022, a similar incident occurred, leading to similar consequences. Twilio, riddle me this. You already knew that there were flaws in your “security” app, right? You knew that the hacking meant that something was wrong, something had to change, and further measures had to be taken in order to prevent such a huge breach from happening again, right? CLEARLY NOT! You guys let the SAME EXACT THING, PROBABLY EVEN DONE BY THE SAME EXACT HACKERS, HAPPEN TWICE! SEVERAL millions of consumers, including me, relied on this flawed security app to protect not only their accounts, but also their personal information. And you couldn’t even ensure it stayed that way. Now millions of people have their numbers probably in the dark web somewhere, along with god-knows-what-else, leaving them even less “secure” than ever. What a joke! For me, it didn’t even end there. Now knowing just how badly I could be spammed with robo calling from whoever has my leaked number, I went to delete my Authy account in order to move to another authentication application, since I can no longer trust Authy and Twilio in this scenario. Then, I was hit with even more trouble when Twilio decided to lock me out of my own account for seven days. Locked out of the account I OWN. With MY DATA. For SEVEN DAYS. With absolutely NO WAY to appeal. I highly doubt this is even legal, and this absolutely solidified my decision to never use this app, or anything made by this corporation, again. Do not use Authy. Do not use Twilio products. If you do, you’re putting your security, privacy, and sanity at risk. Even a 2FA app made by some random shady company is probably more secure than this junk.
