Smooth and easy to use it has pretty much everything you need to know if you plan to travel by train in Europe.
It would be a great app if it wasn’t for the serious bug of somehow putting plus one day on certain train routes that most certainly do not take one day, but only a few hours. It throws off the entire planning and rendered confusion. Fix this bug now!!!!
This app is made by people who have no idea of how a user sees it, including this rating page, where I had to try a few times to get from the title to the review. Booking a 5-day trip was insane as I didn’t know how name it and how to include a 2nd person. The pdf with instructions covered only the paper booking. Each time I had trouble finding the current section and the tickets. Maybe I am a dummy but still I am a customer.
App is glitchy. When trying to plan a trip, the search results will display as one day but when you click on it, it goes to the previous or next day instead. Also, some train routes show as more than 24 hours even though they aren’t. This causes problems with activating travel days for the rail pass. When trying to activate the pass for a train in an existing trip,it just kicks you out to the main reservation screen without giving the QR code for the day. Can’t buy seat reservations for some trains, but they are available on other websites. Why doesn’t the Eurail organization have access to all seat reservations? At least the ones that can be bought elsewhere online. Overall, the app needs work.
I’ve been surprised by how easy this app is to use and navigate. Well thought out and very user friendly.
The app crashes and loses your pass at the wrong moments, requires perfect internet to work well, has way to many steps that you have to take on other platforms. The rail pass is a joke too as all the high speed trains drastically limit the number of seats for pass holders to ensure your pass is quite worthless. All good trains also require significant reservation fees on top. Avoid.
Painful
There are too many train strikes and cancellations in europe for this pass to be worth the cost. You aren’t even updated when your train is cancelled and you end up stranded in a random country. I recommend just bussing around abandoning the train travel.
Missing most of the needed functionality. Web & App do not sync to one another. Meaning what you setup on Website isn’t available on the mobile app and vice versa. Making it barely useful. When searches say the do not have train times for what was searched for and you choose add journey manually you Must type in an Arrival date and time. Let us leave it blank! Why does it send us to a website to get seat reservations? Just too disjointed. The no syncing is almost criminal in 2024.
I purchased the Global travel pass for 3 months. As far as I experienced, the app worked fine over all but could use some improvements. It saved so much time in managing connecting trains and knowing where to book seat reservations (although booking through the app is not so convenient in the Balkan region). I often ran into major trouble when I needed to present my ticket later into the train ride. I did not always have consistent access to internet and occasionally the app would refresh, signing me out and preventing me from viewing my pass. This was quickly fixed when reconnecting to the internet but a few times I had to beg a conductor to believe me. The app could also use some features around planning trips. A simple one would be to allow the user to select a “default trip” when switching tabs, although it may usually only take a few seconds to load, sometimes I feel bad making the conductor wait for seconds and seconds of loading, especially when I may have forgotten to enable a segment of the trip and need to tab multiple times. I would also appreciate a feature where you could “build your journey” one station/segment at a time. I imagine it being quite intuitive where you could organise your journey while taking into account stay overs, train ride durations, etc. by adding “blocks” or something.
