The Klappið app is an official Public transportation payment app, made for Strætó Iceland (the Administrative body for public transportation in the capital area of Iceland). The purpose of the app is to provide payment possibilities of various sorts in public transportation, including single tickets and period passes (such as monthly or yearly passes) for the citizens and guests of Reykjavík. The user can, in the first phase, sign on, register a payment method, purchase a travel media and confirm the purchase by validation in the buses of Strætó.

This is essential app when you live in Reykjavik and do not own a car or can’t afford taxis. Putting aside the fact that public transport should be free and frequent; the way we use the system should be reliable. In case of this app unfortunately it falls flat.
App just logged out (as it does sometimes) and after login, my monthly ticket (only halfway to expiry date) was gone, and nowhere to be found. This is unacceptable!
This happened before with my single tickets.
Apart from this it was challenging to add a card to make a purchase (be aware they only accept Icelandic card) with several errors on the way
On the bright side: I kind of like the app’s design, the scanning system (if worked properly) is kinda cool, and app has some nice functionalities like live bus tracker, the air pollution updates and synchronises map with some scooter providers.

It doesn’t do anything but keeps wanting a code that it will not send! Useless!!!!!

I took a bus recently and this had all I needed, two 75 minute bus passes. havent been able to log in and I’m unsure if it just doesn’t send the SMS or I cant receive it though
Terrible
Bought ticket for bus advertises on app but the bus driver would not accept it. Terrible UI and not user friendly to navigate.
It's getting better
Seems to work fine now most of the time for my usage. I travel to work on the bus every work day and I've noticed a lot fewer issues lately.
I have a years pass so payment happens only once a year which seems to be the biggest source of complaints right now.
App is straight dysfunctional
It won’t send an SMS to a US number. Trying anonymous login, buying a ticket fails with: Another login with your phone number is in use! We will log you out. Wow! I didn’t know I attached a number with anonymous login.
Worst app I’ve ever seen or used
The developers really ought to do a more thorough job in QA. It delivers a very poor experience & it’s a shame since it’s got so much potential.
Can’t Login in
I live in US and about to travel to Iceland. When I put in my phone number to login it asks for a code from Text message. NO code is ever sent through text message. App seems useless. Will have to purchase bus card when in Iceland.
Does not send security code
Why does this app not sent at security code? Otherwise you can’t use the app. Is it because it’s a US number?
Prepare ahead; app is bad user experience
If you are traveling from out of the country, do your research and prepare for using this app ahead of time… you’re gonna need it.
Strongly encourage you to buy your single-way bus ticket AHEAD of getting to the bus stop. Connection problems can really delay you getting on the bus.
WORST part: the QR code used to scan your ticket takes FOREVER to scan on the bus. I don’t know if this is the app’s problem or bus’ problem - either way, horrible experience.
App design is not user-friendly.
Plan ahead for running into some trouble with this app.
