Acorn TV Reviews

A Warm Cup of Tea

Deedlebud on

Acorn strings together old and new favorites that offer the quintessential British experience. Truly, a treasure.

iPad Apps k'board controls don't work

Ned Reb on

United States

The only way to pause the video is to tap the screen and then tap the pause...at EXACTLY the right moment...which isn't clear. You hit the "pause" symbol and nothing happens...because you didn't hit it at exactly the right time. Other video apps respond to the space bar and the forward and back keys, but apparently the developers couldn't figure out how to do that. Very frustrating app. The videos themselves are good.

All the type of drama shows that are well written with unique actors and a display of mystery would a fresh air compared to what Netflix and Amazon offers

App does NOT function with screen mirroring!

CrankyOldBroad on

United States

Edit to add: FINALLY received a reply from Acorn customer support, which informed me that their app does not work with screen mirroring on any device. This needs to be corrected by the app developers ASAP, since I know for a certainty I am NOT the only person who uses their tablet, phone, laptop, etc., to stream to their television. Why in blue blazes does this app not work with Apple screen mirroring?! The screen on my tablet mirrors onto my Roku device fine until I click ‘play’ on the video in the app on my tablet, then the picture cuts out on my TV and the screen goes black and I get audio from the TV but the video only plays on the tablet app. What the…?!?!?! Seriously people, you need to fix this problem for your app to be at all usable by a lot of folks these days. I don’t have this trouble with the apps of other streaming services, just the Acorn TV app, so I know it’s a problem with this app specifically. To answer a question before you can ask, yes, I allowed access to Bluetooth on my iPad Pro as requested by the app. It made no difference, the video still does not play in screen mirroring, all I get is audio. In all honesty, if this problem can’t be fixed, I’m going to have to discontinue my Acorn TV subscription, which I DO NOT want to do! My Centurylink DSL will soon be going the way of the Dodo, leaving my cell phone’s internet capabilities as the most viable option. Since this app doesn’t work with screen mirroring, it is essentially utterly worthless to me until this issue is addressed and corrected.

Love the selection

Mama2worm on

Some of my favorite shows are on this app. Right now there are no commercials, which makes a major difference to me. I love the selection of series, especially the woman led crime dramas.

Best streaming service!

NattilyAttired on

I’ve been subscribing to Acorn for years and it never disappoints. They have interesting documentaries and great non-US content. We love Brokenwood (New Zealand), Hinterland (Wales), Chelsea Detective and London Kills. Absolutely loved Tony Robinson in Walking through History and now Canal Boat Diaries. Also great “True Crime” documentaries and docudramas like Code of a Killer, Yorkshire Ripper and the Real Manhunter. Get it.

Horrible customer service

Kveeee8 on

Try getting help to resolve an error about acorn not being able to play a show. Good luck! Acorn will take your money but providing value for it? Nooooo that’s not in the cards
