Apparently the answer from the blog is disable encryption on your NAS which is a no go for me. I live in a major city with a pretty big tech scene and I’m not about to send my password in plane text over to WiFi in an apartment in the city. No guidance from the developers. I suspect having a certificate authority with a trusted cert might work but I’m not about to waste hours of time for an assumption. Synology is supposed to be a company “focused on software” but this doesn’t feel like a good example. The app should be removed/delisted from the App Store or proper guidance should be provided from the company. Amount of time I wasted on this issue: 2 hours.
Won’t play any of the songs on my NAS. Just skips each one till the playlist is finished. I keep hoping that they will fix this issue with each update but it is never fixed. I thought maybe my settings were not setup properly but I can’t see any issue there. Would love to use this more often but I just can’t seem to get it to work.
This app straight up doesn’t work
This app used to work great. After mid-2024 a number of bugs appeared. First, when I select an album to play the app downloads three copies of each track, so you get to listen to each track three times. Second, when some tracks play they skip, like a vinyl disc skipping. If you reload the track it plays fine. Third, sometimes in the middle of a track it skips on to the next track. This is a great pity since the format of the app is about the best out there. I now use Music Streamer. Not such a nice interface but it has none of the problems of DSMusic.
After last update the airplayicon has disappeared while in app. The only way to select an airplay device is to start your music. Lock your screen. From the Lock Screen the AirPlay icon exists. Select it and th n AirPlay device. So it technically still works but—that needs fixed
In CarPlay it regularly shows “logging in”. If you use the phone to play a song it will play it, and you can switch to the Currently Playing view and see the song playing. Not sure why it needs to log in more.
Love the functionality provided. Needs a little more love from devs to be perfect!
Like others mentioned, the app constantly skip to the next song for no reason. Please fix the issue. Thanks! Feature request: could you add the functionality to edit playlists while playing songs? A simple “Add song to playlist” function would do.
It’s a neglected afterthought and an absolute embarrassment of an app that has the same old stale design and bug-ridden UI that it’s had for nearly a decade now. It’s the kind of app you’d expect from a freshman college student rather than a company that powers data solutions for half the Fortune 500. It just barely checks enough boxes to be considered a functional music player, but you’ll quickly discover that the only reason this app still exists is so that Synology’s marketing department can legally advertise “your own personal music streaming service” or some nonsense. It’s such a shame too, considering how great the rest of the Synology OS looks and operates.
