I tried to updade my ep8 motor firmware via bluetooh. Update was done around 50% when I got pop up message ”bluetooth connection failed”. I kept my phone next to my bike whole time and app was open during the update. Bike did not turn on after the firmware update failed. Had to take my bike to local bike service and they had to open the motor and do some reboot to the system. 95 EUR lesson not use this app never again to update any firmware to my bike.

Is it really so, that Shimano has done software which requires phone display to be on all the time during firmware updates? If phone display turns off, data transfer via bluetooth is breaking up, and only possibility to do rollback of bike’s firmware is in authorized service provider? But since 2020 it never connects. Luckily I have the USB dongle which works.

App works quite fluently and connects to the bike easily. The major flaw is that light output setting has been removed. That should be definitively returned.

I tried to update bike firmware with the latest version and the app crashed. Now the bike doesn’t start and has to be taken to dealer. The old version worked also with firmware updates. Be careful with this

Version 3 did have light activation, version 4 don’t.

App lacks the function to turn on the lights. It used to be there! Fix this please fast!

Manual says in the ”drive unit” settings there is Light connection, which is to switch lights on and off. In the older version there was, but not any more. A Bug? In ”Drive unit” there is only ”Display Speed”.

Requires to accept new software license terms but accepting greyed out and crash.
