Joplin is an open source note taking and to-do application, which can handle a large number of notes organised into notebooks. The notes are searchable, can be copied, tagged and modified. Images and other files can be attached to notes. The iOS application supports markdown rendering.
The notes can be synchronised with your other devices via Nextcloud, Dropbox, OneDrive or Joplin Cloud. Joplin is also available for Windows, macOS and Linux and all can synchronise with each others so your notes can be available on your mobile phone, computer, tablet, etc. Please see the official website for the list of available applications: https://joplinapp.org
The desktop applications can be used to import notes from Evernote via .enex files, including the formatted content (which is converted to markdown), resources (images, attachments, etc.) and complete metadata (geolocation, updated time, created time, etc.). These imported notes can then be synchronised with the iOS app.
End-to-end encryption (E2EE) is supported and will encrypt the complete data, including notes, notebooks and attachments.

Bugs in iOS App
Actually I love Joplin. However, the iOS app is buggy. Creating a new note results in a blank page which requires a restart of the app.
In addition it’s impossible to login to OneDrive anymore. After entering the email address and clicking on next, the blank page appears again, so it’s not possible to enter a password. Hence, in the current development phase the iOS Joplin app is useless.
Slow sync
Extremly slow to sync with dropbox on ios (the desktop is much better)
Search results do not show up
Iphone 12, IOS 14.1. Otherwise the perfect note taking app. Works across platforms.
Works like a charm
The app is really great and I love to work with. Has everything I need. Thanks for your great work.
(iPhone 7 plus, iOS 14.6)
Goodbye Evernote
Encryption, markdown, $math$, transparency, Joplin has all that.
Will I miss certain things from Evernote? Yes, searchable PDFs would be nice, but I started to bring more order in my system, not a deal breaker. Hard to implement in Joplin without blowing it up and making it slow I imagine.
The OCR in Evernote was quite powerful, but having personal data on some server... I had to keep the more confidential stuff separate and offline anyway, I prefer to have everything encrypted in Joplin instead.
The transfer of all the notes from Evernote to Joplin was a bit tricky, I had to make it with smaller files to prevent corruption of the attachments, but it worked.
Exactly what I was looking for
An excellent alternative to Evernote! Open source, encrypted, compatible and privacy friendly! Also the developer is very active, listens to suggestions and the app evolves quickly! I highly recommend this note taking app!
Can only recommend it
Excellent app to keep notes organized and encrypted, exactly what I was looking for.
The possibility to export in md format also frees the user from being locked in.
Keep up the good work!
