Recommendation
This app is one of the most important resources on my MacBook and IOS devices. Its use leads to the first place in screen time statistics since its purchase. With its focused capabilities to support structuring and navigation, it also earns my medals with offline OCR for browsing scanned documents. Bugs are detected and fixed in a timely manner. MarginNotes 3 earns my full recommendation.
very nice app, no manual
the app is very nice, ok, there are some things one wishes ... but where not ... its sad there is no manual and no current videos from the author available - that makes it unnecessary hard to learn it - sad and the sync with dropbox is a mess - sometimes it works, sometimes not, really annoying!
No Windows and IOS access :(
Just because there is no Windows and IOS access, one of the first and most powerful applications loses its position: - spaced repetition - active recall - bi-directional link

Update 11.11.20: Sync is NOW FUNCTIONAL between Mac and iOS!! Very happy, because the app is one of the most awesome apps to study with ever 😄📚 The mindmap layout really helps to get vetter overviews of study notes. I mostly use it for lectures but books work also very well 📖👍🏻, I think it is more usable on Mac than on iPad, but maybe that‘s just me... I would totally recommend the app if your studies include lots of stuff with graphical content/formulae and not too much text.
Super Programm für Studenten, Schüler, Dozenten und Lehrer
Margin Note ist unverzichtbar, um im Studium viele PDFs zu lesen, das Wichtigste herauszuarbeiten und später mit den eigenen Notizen zu lernen oder Vorträge/ schriftliche Arbeiten zu erstellen. Dagegen ist Liquid Text noch in den Kinderschuhen. Schon wegen dieser Programme hat sich der Kauf des iPads gelohnt. Es hat jedoch so viele Möglichkeiten, dass es anfangs nicht leicht zu bedienen ist. Ich hatte Mühe herauszufinden, wie kommt mein Dokument in das Programm, wie lese ich/erstelle ich Mindmaps/ wie speicher ich ab... Hinzu kommt, dass man es nur auf Englisch nutzen kann. Die Tutorials (ohne Sprache) haben mir geholfen wichtige Funktionen zu verstehen. Es könnten mehr sein. Teilweise habe ich Mühe die Mindmap-Bäumchen oder einzelne Notizen auf der Fläche anzuordnen. Im Moment weiss ich nicht, wie ich den Titel der einzelnen Felder einblenden kann und behelfe mir mit Farbformatierungen. Ich finde auch schade, dass man nicht einfach auf die Fläche des Mindmaps zeichnen kann, zumindest habe ich es noch nicht herausgefunden (im Gegensatz zu Liquid Text). Dennoch finde ich, dass die Vorteile überwiegen. Die Verlinkung zur Textstelle ist immer gegeben, man erstellt klare Hierarchien, es gibt eine irre coole Suchfunktion, die auch das Internet mit einschliesst, man kann Bilder, Tabellen und Text im Mindmap platzieren, gescannten Text recht fehlerfrei umwandeln, die Handschrifterkennung in der Notizfunktion ist super (kostet allerdings einen kleineren Beitrag pro Jahr extra), man kann die Texte sehr gut in den Feldern formatieren und bearbeiten (im Gegensatz zu Liquid Text) und als besonders cooles Extra, kann man die Felder des Mindmaps als Lernkarten exportieren, um sich auf Prüfungen vorzubereiten. Das habe ich jedoch noch nicht probiert, bin aber ständig auf der Funktion (Thema intuitives Bedienen).
