Notion

Compose anywhere

Description

With over 10 years in the App Store, Notion Mobile is a free, award-winning music composition tool for iOS, iPadOS®, macOS and more! You’ll effortlessly create dynamic compositions in traditional musical notation or guitar tablature with its intuitive touch-based interface and incredibly broad editing capabilities.

With a user-friendly interface and simple interactive piano keyboard, fretboard, drum pad, and even optional Handwriting Recognition, Notion Mobile makes it easy to get started composing your music. You can also hear your music performed with the most realistic playback possible, using real audio samples recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios.
Notion Mobile is a native cross-platform app, meaning you can write anywhere on any device without requiring a constant Internet connection. And when you’re back online, you’ll be able to sync your work across multiple devices — either through your preferred cloud provider, or through the optional wireless transfer between PreSonus applications on any device. Start your work on one device and finish it on another. Once you are happy with your creation you can share the Notion file, or export as MIDI, MusicXML, PDF or as an audio file.
Compose, edit, and play back your music performed with real piano and orchestral samples recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios — along with outstanding sampled guitar, bass, drums and other popular instruments. And when you’re ready for more sounds, you’ll find the extensive library of Notion Add-on Soundsets to purchase as part of the Feature Bundle. To save space, the initial app download contains just piano — you can then manage which of the bundled Soundsets to have on your device or keep in the cloud, just tap on Sound Installation.
Notion has been featured in various Apple campaigns including the 2014 YourVerse television commercials and has won several awards, including a prestigious music industry NAMM TEC Award for Best Smartphone/Tablet App.

Notion Reviews

Bad

Luke Gann on

United States

The mobile app I'm sure it has all the features but because it's mobile it's incredibly hard to use. I mean sure it would be cool if I could use all those features but it's phone, and just the size of it makes it impossible to do. I would say 85% of what it's marketed as comfortably.

Unusable

Notportlynj on

United States

This app is virtually unusable. I used it to painfully enter a piano part which I was going to use to play on flute, and transpose to sax. 1. It doesn’t support grace notes. At all. Looked for that in the notes pallet. Not there. 2. Since the piano part had notes below C, I thought I’d use this to enter the part and transpose it up an octave. When I did, all accidentals were removed! Trying to re-enter them was impossible. Just. Don’t. Bother. With. This.

Bug fix: orchestral pastes

gadget user 101426 on

United States

Please fix copying and pasting for orchestral scores. It’s entirely unreliable. Also,Sometimes you have to restart the app because the copy button just stops working

Whee is the audio

Cooper Ludke on

United States

I can’t hear the audio and I have my volume as high as it can go and it won’t work

Marching percussion

ASDE_KKl++= on

United States

This app is pretty good. I would like to see quad toms or marching bass drums because when I try to make marching things I’m using the concert toms as quads 😂.

Copy/paste

Krporion on

United States

App a bit better, but still not earning stars. Copy/Paste doesn’t work well. Or at all. I copy, then attempt to paste, but the app doesn’t always paste. Or if have two parts (piano, bass clef), it puts one part in the proper next measure and the other part in the very next measure beyond, after the proper measure: it splits the voices instead of putting all in one measure. Copy/paste has been erratic for a loonnnngggg time. Why can’t it be fixed? The developer’s response to my complaint about the failure of copy/paste to work is completely irrelevant. I’m subtracting a rating star.

Good So Far!

ZenWasHere_ on

United States

I like it so far! I’ve created my first composition. The only thing that’s come up is, the tempo thingy disappeared… I don’t know what I did - how do I get it back?

Can you please add so more realistic sounding instruments apleases

evilguy7000 on

Pleas good app though I just want some good sounding instruments pleases☺️ And pretty please can you make the lyrics work please Like I using the lyrics text on choirs but it not work I don’t hear the lyrics i just hear “ahh” Just please ☺️ And can you make the bass choir go to a lower note like the contrabassoon ☺️

Please change it back!!!!

HelloDimitri on

United States

I’ve had this app for about 8 years or so. It WAS the best app for music notation until the recent update. It used to be a breeze to point and click with the apple pen. Writing was fast and efficient. This update has slowed things down, I can’t copy and paste notes/measures as easily as before. Selecting the group of notes on the same stem is more of a hassle. Please change it back to the way it was. Writing music down should not be this frustrating

This app seems to get into its own way

Jp Skully on

United States

There’s a stickiness now with working on the app. The past version was much more intuitive. The cursor gets bogged down and doesn’t really start playing your piece at the location that it resides… and it crashes. Yuck.
