Obsidian Reviews

****– ::: Great, but a few remarks nonetheless :::

1️⃣ Probably due to the Obsidian Platform's underlying fundamental architecture (igs), it cannot and does not support HardSpace nor LineBrk (NewLine) character functionality – or am I mistaken on this (which would be wonderful news) ? 2️⃣ [1:] Tap a note in the list of notes → [2:] We get a full view of the tapped note → [3:] Tap the 23h "document list" icon → [4:] We get back to our notes list indeed, where we find the note's entry that we are back from now highlighted in the list → [5:] Tap the same entry again in a clear attempt to reopen the very same note → [6:] This ~fails unexpectedly, as if there's no way to get back into the same note that we had just returned from. ??!!~ [7:] OK, we can work around this bizarre anomaly (or what do you call such behaviour) in various ways, but then that doesn't take away the utter annoyance it time and again brings about. --- Obsidian v.1.5.8 on iPadOS v17.3.1 --- 2024.02.29.Th.06:30.iPm.

It’s a shame that we need to create new vault or pay for sync. I already pay for OneDrive, I should be able to open my vault from it.

Why can’t I select an existing vault on icloud?

Seems a bit strange that you need to create a new vault (which is just a folder) on icloud through the app on your iOS device, when I’ve already made a vault on my iCloud earlier using my computer. Now I’m supposed to copy all files from the earlier vault to the new one in order to establish a way to sync files between my computer and the iOS device. Why isn’t there an option to select an earlier created vault as the vault you want to use? Why can we only create new vaults? I haven’t tested it yet but I’m wondering how I’m going to be able to sync between iPad and iPhone if both only can create new vaults. Edit: while I still find this method odd it’s not really hampering. I’ve now checked my iPhone and it immediately presents the vaults I created through my iPad. The sole reason to create a vault through an iOS device, that I can see, is so that the vault would exist within a dedicated Obsidian folder on your iCloud.

Ok

Gets 5 stars when oneDrive sync can be implemented, pretty useless for me atm

Works perfectly across devices using iCloud sync.

Hands down the best app if you want to take back control of your personal data: all your notes can be kept in iCloud as plain files. Obsidian does not own them and you can access everything offline!

Searched for this app for years

I’ve always struggled finding a way to stay organized without feeling overwhelmed by the process itself. Any app that promised to organize my brain just sat on my phone. I write books and besides Google docs (which definitely has its limits), I tried so many different apps which either I had to subscribe to be able to access their gated community or they just weren’t simpatico with my brain. Thankfully, I kept my search up, and finally discovered Obsidian. Whoever made this app, thank you. I recommend it to everyone. It’s simple and straightforward without a lot of flashy design—nothing wrong with that, but as someone with a mind of fireworks, it’s nice to have something easy. It works on my desktop as well, which makes this writer very happy. 🌞

Really?

What is the point to have to pay for synch between my own computer and my phone?

Best note taking app ever

I’ve been using Obsidian on desktop for a while now. As a software engineer and hobby novelist it works great for both my technical notes and my brainstorming. Having the file system be something I can access easily and create copies of puts me in control and I love it. I just found out I can share a vault with my iPad using iCloud sync and my favorite app just got even better?! One small request, I’m working on an iPad mini (not ideal I know but it is great for portability). Providing ways to hide parts of the UI like the format toolbar that appears above the keyboard and isn’t really needed for those who know markdown, would be great. I want to be able to use my iPad to jot down story ideas on the go but the vertical space with the landscape keyboard is really small.

Great app, exactly what I need

The Obsidian app is one of my most frequently used and relied on apps, and it has been for years now. I use the Obsidian Sync service and it's been pretty flawless for me between my iPhone and my Mac (the only two devices that I use regularly). I've had a couple minor issues, but they were addressed pretty quickly via the Obsidian forum. Overall, this app is essential for managing my life, and I'm extremely thankful for it and the awesome dev team who supports it!

Works perfectly in iOS 18

Obsidian is my favorite app yo organize my notes for large and complicated projects. The app *used to* constantly freeze when opened because it would get stuck syncing iCloud files, which would never finish on cellular data. Other times it would load but then immediately freeze. Since I updated to iOS 18 and set my Obsidian vault folder to “Keep downloaded” in the Files app, it has worked flawlessly.
