Update: iPhone obsidian is now working - with a large library!, doesn’t require sync of what it has already synced every time, doesn’t crash and pause as soon as you open it. Working the same as on Mac and iPad. Well done for fixing it. Updated: still broken but at least they tell you in advance it’s broken. Someone recommended I check this app out and the first thing I thought to try was installing the importer plug-in to be able to import iPad notes. When trying to enable it I am greeted with the message ‘failed to load plug-in Obsidian-importer’. I tried restarting the iPad and reload the app several times as well as removing and reinstalling the plug-in. That’s a huge pass from me. I’d expect an app this critical to peoples lives and businesses to work flawlessly. Pathetic effort people.

Whilst I damn appreciate the obsidian app and its developers and everything about it. I feel this app is a hot pile of garbage. It’s really extremely clunky to the point of being unusable. I find it’s exceptionally hard to just add something or create a note in a streamlined manner. In addition it’s almost impossible to search notes efficiently it always comes up with wrong results. The settings/menu page is damn overly complicated. Everything needs to be stripped back and made more simple. Until then I can’t help but have to use Apple notes due to it’s simplicity and streamlined nature. Until the obsidian app is more easy to use and natural feeling I unfortunately cannot recommend.

It was a 5/5, until this morning. Unexpectedly, it's started crashing, and now it won't open at all without the iPhone actually shutting down and rebooting on it's own on a loop. Nothing changed, no other installations or ios behaviours, to warrant this unanticipated error. I've presumably lost months of business notes and data. Not impressed at all.

Obsidian is the polar opposite of the built-in Notes app. Unapologetically for geeks who want full control over the tool they use. Key advantage over other “second brain” apps is it uses open data formats, so you never have to worry about the company going out of business or ratcheting up pricing because you’re locked in. Notes are straightforward markdown files sitting on your file system in a a straightforward folder hierarchy. There’s a great catalogue of free open-source plugins available to customise your experience. It does have a learning curve and takes time to setup each vault (project) as vaults don’t share settings by design.

Obsidian seems like an awesome productivity tool, but on iPadOS the app crashes very frequently, particularly during multitasking, which makes the entire system very hard to recommend.

I love the app and the program but I think it would be neat and cohesive if the icon changed colour with your change in colour of the accent

Not only is it 100% free, but it’s also feature packed and can be customised in any way imaginable

you will take forever to populate content just to find that search to be very clunky. the point of this app is to easily enable data entry and retrievable the team needs to focus on things that matter
