I’ve always struggled finding a way to stay organized without feeling overwhelmed by the process itself. Any app that promised to organize my brain just sat on my phone. I write books and besides Google docs (which definitely has its limits), I tried so many different apps which either I had to subscribe to be able to access their gated community or they just weren’t simpatico with my brain. Thankfully, I kept my search up, and finally discovered Obsidian. Whoever made this app, thank you. I recommend it to everyone. It’s simple and straightforward without a lot of flashy design—nothing wrong with that, but as someone with a mind of fireworks, it’s nice to have something easy. It works on my desktop as well, which makes this writer very happy. 🌞
What is the point to have to pay for synch between my own computer and my phone?
I’ve been using Obsidian on desktop for a while now. As a software engineer and hobby novelist it works great for both my technical notes and my brainstorming. Having the file system be something I can access easily and create copies of puts me in control and I love it. I just found out I can share a vault with my iPad using iCloud sync and my favorite app just got even better?! One small request, I’m working on an iPad mini (not ideal I know but it is great for portability). Providing ways to hide parts of the UI like the format toolbar that appears above the keyboard and isn’t really needed for those who know markdown, would be great. I want to be able to use my iPad to jot down story ideas on the go but the vertical space with the landscape keyboard is really small.
The Obsidian app is one of my most frequently used and relied on apps, and it has been for years now. I use the Obsidian Sync service and it's been pretty flawless for me between my iPhone and my Mac (the only two devices that I use regularly). I've had a couple minor issues, but they were addressed pretty quickly via the Obsidian forum. Overall, this app is essential for managing my life, and I'm extremely thankful for it and the awesome dev team who supports it!
Obsidian is my favorite app yo organize my notes for large and complicated projects. The app *used to* constantly freeze when opened because it would get stuck syncing iCloud files, which would never finish on cellular data. Other times it would load but then immediately freeze. Since I updated to iOS 18 and set my Obsidian vault folder to “Keep downloaded” in the Files app, it has worked flawlessly.
I don’t see anything on the development, Apple intelligence integration but it would be really cool if he did that, regardless it’s a great app
Update Sept 24 The crashing problem continues to happen when I edit the note title or add tags, please advise!! 5 stars other than the crashing issue Update aug 24 Noticed lots of improvement thanks!! My app seems to crash a lot especially when editing the doc title, any suggestions on how to avoid? —- Granted Im running this on an iPhone 8 plus so maybe that’s part of the problem but whenever I try to pick a color it’s really glitchy and as soon as I touch any of the bar is it exes out of the color picker window. What I would love is to be able to have multiple color pallets available that I can save and name and organize so that I have each of the color pallets I need for each of the projects I need. And maybe just maybe a pick from image eyedropper? That would be amazing ALSO Is it possible to embed videos in the app or even have them linked from an iCloud or Google Drive to the document? I have a lot of reference videos that I want to be able to archive and notate what I need from them and tag them etc
Truly nothing compares. If they allowed me to manually re-order files, added native column and row inserts like on Apple notes, and made the canvas truly infinite, this would be perfect in my eyes. AMAZING!
thank you erica xu
