Roadtrippers - Trip Planner

London to Windsor. Sort of worked. Windsor to Bath worked. Bath to Olney it had no idea. Was useless from there. Google allows 10 locations. This allows 7 before demanding $48 a year.

Coming back on the app after not being able to travel is disappointing, there’s too much other noise that gets in the way. As a paying subscriber I should be able to turn off features that aren’t relevant to my travel plans. It used to be a pure travel planning app with some other features, now it feels it’s sold out to hotels. Not cool any more.

Overall Roadtrippers is proving a real asset for planning my rides but I would find it helpful if there was a colour coded system for showing whether a road surface is loose metal. This would help motorcycle riders to plan their rides.

Besides the fact you can only add 5 visit points in the free version, the actual usability of this app isn‘t great either. Finding and selecting destinations, points of Interest etc is difficult on a mobile screen as its based around selecting areas on a map, which once zoomed in far enough to see the pin points, loses all context of where these things are on the map. I would not purchase the plus version for this reason. To be honest the desktop version is equally as bad and a far cry from what roadtrippers used to be when I first discovered them many years ago.

Roadtrippers lowered the maximum number of stops in a road trip to 8 in the free version. This is obviously too low to force customers to buy the plus subscription, that you can only pay for an entire year at once ! Do they believe that their customers are on the road for entire years at once ? Incredibly scummy tactic to force people to pay for a service that they will use only for a few weeks most likely. The bare minimum would be to let us buy Roadtrippers Plus on a month to month basis. Until that is possible I won’t use this anymore.

I was really excited to find this app as we are planning a big road trip through Germany next year. I like the ability to add in locations on the map but you have to add destinations via either accomodation or a sight. Not so easy to just add a village name. Their are no sub categories either so if you want to build on a place you are visiting with accomodation and things to visit it just adds it in the main list which is confusing. It also keeps trying to link to where I live now. For example I click on guides hoping to find some guides for Germany and instead it shows my only NZ stuff cause that is where I am now. I’ve gone back to my spreadsheet to plan instead. Probably good if you are actually on your road trip when using it.

This App really opens up possibilities for great day trips and short walks in or near your local area. Well done...and looking forward to where this app goes in the future.

Unclear and clunky

Really Great App!! Just add places you want to go to and it helps plan the best route for you to go. Good for people like me who can’t decide which place to visit first and don’t know if it’s along the way(too many places).

Was over in the US on a roady, downloaded this app and it was pretty much all I needed. Found some interesting things off the beaten track too
