Rover FAQ
Is Rover free?
Yes, Rover is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Rover legit?
⚠️ Warning: Multiple users of Rover have mentioned scam or fraud. Investigate thoroughly before using this app.
I love Rover and the sitters I find on here but the advertised rates when you’re searching for sitters are never the rate you end up paying at the end. Daily rates, among other factors such as location, sitters rating, etc are something that everyone looks at when they want to have someone take care of their pet(s). On more than one occasion I’ve chosen to book with a sitter because they were affordable for me and then when I’m finishing the booking I see I’m not actually getting the rate that was advertised. Sitters seem to have the ability to set random dates to charge “holiday” fees and this doesn’t show when I’m initially looking at options. It’s very annoying but what other choice do I have? I feel like Rover takes advantage of people this way.
Still waiting to get paid
App is generally easy to use. Their claim they pay you in 48 hours is not true…. I’m going on day 5 waiting to get paid for a job that ended 5 days ago. My banking info is correct. You need to pay people promptly after they finish a job and there no issues!!! Now I have to go chase my earnings!!!
Great idea - but 20%??
I love what Rover does for the people that use it. I have used it for sitting and have also sat for others’ pets. The app charges each person that joins as a sitter for their own background check and then takes 20% of the earnings. This is way too high in my opinion. I had a couple request for me to sit for their dog for 2 weeks… I charge $50 per night so this would have been $650 total for the dog’s owner to pay. Of that, I would have made $520, why still sounds like a lot, however that comes out to $37 per day… and you are spending quite a bit of time with their pets. The fact that the app was taking over $100 from this visit seemed extreme-for this reason, I rejected it. I think it would be more appropriate to take between 5 and 10%. Often times, I will sit one time via Rover, and then have any future payments be sent outside the app, after the first visit. This has worked well for me. I’m glad this app exists but I wish the percentage of the money taken from the sitter was lower. 20% seems greedy.
HORRIBLE SCAM OF AN APP
ATTENTION ALL PEOPLE SIGNING UP FOR ROVER TO PET SIT, THIS APP IS A SCAM!!!!! YOU ARE NOT GUARANTEED ANY WORK!!! THEY DO NOT POST JOB LISTINGS, THEY TELL YOU ITS UP TO YOU TO SELF PROMOTE, THEY REFUSE TO GIVE YOUR MONEY BACK EVEN IF YOU DO NOT GET ANY JOBS. DO NOT SIGN UP!!! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD THAT THIS APP IS NO GOOD!! USE CARE.COM, WORD OF MOUTH, OR CRAIGSLIST!!!! THIS IS A SCAM AND A HORRIBLE COMPANY. THEY OUTSOURCE THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ARE NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. BOYCOTT THIS COMPANY!!!
Payments take way too long
Overall pretty good. But having to wait 3-4 days for payments is completely unacceptable. Technology is beyond advanced for that.
The biggest mistake in my life!!
I've had this for almost a year with life time experience with pets of all kinds, ages of all kind, and with the perfect house for them to play/stay at and not a single person booked me. Just 2 scammers texted me and they had all my bank cards permanently shut down and I'm banned from the bank all together so I can't even get a new bank card and this app costed me $50 with no refund and it's the biggest mistake ever starting this app. I thought I would make my money back by sitting and walking with full availability and no one ever messaged me. If you get a message saying they're booking an appointment for their uncle and the pay is 100$-300$ a week don't even reply to them they're scammers! just report their account and have the app shut down their account so it doesn't affect your service ratings.
Terrible Experience
Sitter felt disgusted by my dogs accident and demanded a refund before leaving the trip early.
Had to fly back home on Xmas Eve and still got charged with a cancellation fee.
Scam
Great app to lose your dog!
Horrible experience and traumatic. Our sitter lost our dog 3 hours after we dropped him off. Never again will we be using this app or hire a stranger to babysit our dog.
New update is a bear to work with
I am a cat sitter and have watched many cats through this app with wonderful experiences. However, one of the things my clients love is my detailed notes of my drop in visits, and the new update to the sitter’s Rover card are clunky, and the notes delete when you go to add more to them and you have to start all over again. Timing on this update was not great, as I have a lot of cat sittings coming up this week with the Christmas holidays, and I am no longer looking forward to filling out my Rover cards. Please make it more user friendly like it was before.
App update
I am having trouble with the note after the update. I go to add information and sometimes the whole text disappears and I have to rewrite it all over again. Pls fix the bug. Thx.
